Definitely a real shame to see another long time grass roots circuit go, especially with governments so intent on street circuits for the exposure now, the places for enthusiasts to go and unleash their toys are getting few and far between.

I think they expect that Eastern Creek will do Sydney's car community justice. Other then the fact that it's grossly expensive and booked out constantly.

I liked the track but I reckon the people who owned the whole circuit always held it for the day they could sell it off for development. I reckon the owners spent the absolute minimum there - I think they have had the track since the 60's and have virtually done nothing facilities wise other than upgrading the pits and setting up a corporate area - and they probably were forced to do that to keep the V8's going there!
The toilets and grandstands remained as built from day one with no additions, The food stalls virtually unchanged and behind the grandstands - you guessed it all dirt roads and a real mess when it rained. So I miss the actual track but the people who owned it were just money sucking grubs and did nothing for the patrons who continued to trudge each year to the track. |

That is sad - it's not like we didn't know it was coming but seeing the bridge like that is horrible.

Sad day indeed I went past there yesterday and it nearly brought a tear to my eye.
I was fortunate enough to be able to do some super sprints there and at Amaroo in my younger days. |

yeah, I got to do a few laps with Wayne Boatright in his Subaru Sti a few years back when he was doing good things in that category - what ever it was! Was it Nations Cup or something back then?

RIP Oran Park.

I heard that little gem when was when I was over at Oran Park last year at an event.

The cinder track is still there, though now covered with grass as it's used as a cricket & soccer ground. Even the original grand stand has been restored. It was closed on April 11th 1964 due to local residents complaining about noise levels.

There is word that Skaife will be building a track on the central coast. That will be a good thing.

all the people who bought houses near the speedway are now complaining about the noise. Apparently, if you knew the speedway was there, it doesn't matter.
