Default Where to eat/What to do in Adelaide

Hi guys and gals.

Any SA guys want to give me the local goss on where to eat and anything worth seeing while in town. I will be there later this week, staying in the CBD.
I'l only be in town for 2-3 nights. Probably there wed-Fri but plans not firm yet.

Looking for somewhere to have a really awesome pizza as well any other recommended cheap eats for breakfast, dinner, etc

Also can anyone tell me where to head for a comedy night or cheap/free entertainment.

Cheers!

If you like Italian food go to Cafe Di Roma. They are at Prospect (Prospect Road) and on East Terrace. Yummo!z

For Pizza, try Lulus Pizza on Regency Road Prospect. Big toppings on the pizzas for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the tips.

So from Nth terrace Lulus is say 5klm or there abouts?

Do Cafe DiRoma do a decent pizza? I haven't had a decent pizza in months and am a pizzaholic!

Not worried about value for money neccesarily, just drop dead gorgeous, mouth watering food!

imo best pizza is adelaide in La Trattoria on king william street just down from the courts. if you want an authentic italian pizza then Etica on gilles street (may need a booking the advertiser ran a story on it today).

if you just want a good bowl of pasta then Vino on unley road or Enzo's on port road. you can catch the tram to enzos, stops right outside his door

Entertainment you have the fringe at the garden of unearthly delights and glutoney at the end of rundle street and the depot next to the central market then there is bario behind parliament house for the festival of arts.

Thanks pmacc.
I have had a pizza at La Trats before and from memory it was good. That was my fail safe if no one could offer up anything else decent.
Just wanted to throw it out there to see what else was around.

I knew the fringe was on, but looked up some of the comedy acts and it gave the impression that I need to book in advance for the A list stuff and a lot of the other stuff is advetised for Friday night only. Perhaps I need to do a little more searching.
Due to circumstances beyond my control I cant do ( book) that as I am not 100% locked down on which days/nights I will be there, so it is hard to book in advance. Its looking like Wednesday and Thurs nights but not 100% yet. Havent even booked flights yet although I will be tomorrow once I get confirmation of some details.

Are there any good regular comedy haunts where I can just rock up to the door on the spur of the moment and pay entry mid week ( Wed-Thurs nights looking likely)?
Or are the Fringe gigs not that regimented that I could possibly just rock up and pay?

You obviously haven't heard that it's Mad March over here in Adelaide.

Adelaide Fringe Festival - http://www.adelaidefringe.com.au/
Clipsal 500 - Finished yesterday, so no more car racing here
Womadelaide - http://www.womadelaide.com.au/
Adelaide Festival - http://www.adelaidefestival.com.au/

Plenty to do here right now.

Food wise, there is plenty of places down Rundle Street, Gouger Street, Melbourne Street and O'Connell Street. They are the main eatery streets.

Lulu's would be too far away. It's about 10 minutes by car.

If you want pizza, then there is a place up here in the Barossa Valley, Roaring 40's Cafe in Angaston, that has won numerous awards for it's pizzas. You will need a car to get there though. It's a little over an hour to get here

Thanks mate.
I did a web search on my phone and the site I searched was a bit vague.

That Adelaide fringe site you linked seems like the go. I was able to search for comedy under the dates I think I will be there so thanks for that.

If I had time I would get up to the Barossa, but this is a flying trip with not a lot of time unfortunately. I will get as far out of the CBD as the 'gully pub but thats it.

Forget Enzo's unless you book; that place fills up every night of the week.
For a great pub style meal try the Old Lion on Melbourne street. Great place to go for a meal and a few beers and the atmosphere is awesome.
The festivals on now are great, be sure to look into some shows. Even just wandering around the east end is fun, you never know what you'll find to do. Enjoy your stay.

Leicester Hotel or Adelaide Liars Club (same place) in Leicester St Parkside will serve you the best PARMA in Australia my suggestion is Bulls Bollocks with Chirizo on top and ensure you go the LIARS size and not the ladies....I am a Melbourne boy and every time I visit Adelaide I have to stop in there for a Parma...it is without doubt my favorite parma place in Australia.... PS I was there on Sunday night post Clipsal.

Hope you're enjoying adelaide so far, if you're out on the street tonight keep an eye out, I'll be in my 300C.

As for Pizza, one of the best places I have eaten it from was San Giorgio on the corner or Rundle Street and Frome Road (the middle intersection of Rundle). The pizza there is fantastic. Otherwise if you're after an authentic napalitaliono pizza then as said, Etica is the place to go, absolutely mind blowing!

My favourite place to eat in Adelaide was The Planet at 77 Pirie Street. I used to visit that place regularly in the 1990s. Pity it no longer exists.

So the question is, did you go and try this place, and did you think it was one of the best little pubs you have ever visited.

I just realized you called it a parma; not on in south Australia!! Here it's "parmy" or "schnitty", even though Parma fits better than parmy haha.
Hope the stay here was nice for you OP, did you go anywhere good?
