I read the article, 2 litre turbo, 206kw petrol, top speed 250km/h.
Sounds like it might be up to the job, we'll see.
I got picked up from the airport a while ago in a Skoda wagon, very impressed, nice car.

I had a contact with a Skoda Superb sedan- it must have been tuned because it was almost lineball with my FGX XR8 (with intercooler), my FGX had a hair on it-cross section gnats ball hair.

If they get tuned will surprise a lot of hoon muscle cars.

WA Police must have a Kiwi connection.
NZ Police decided 12 months ago that Superb would replace its ageing Holden fleet.

I don't know, Every time I hear the word Skoda I break out into a cold sweat remembering the days of my Skoda 120, that would not pull the skin off a rice pudding let alone catch someone .

With Holden and Ford not making cars here, It just does not feel like Australia anymore

Well, at least it's not as expensive as VIC and our BMW 530d's and other assorted ridiculously expensive cars they seem to get.

They are a great car, not my cup of tea but I think well suited to the role. Mate of mine has one and I’m surprised how fast it is. Nicely specced and finished too.

Pretty sure the 2L have always been the non-explodey DSG...they use wet-clutch. These will probably prove to be best suited and best bang-for-buck replacement of the options now available - won't be surprised to see other Pol fleets go in same direction

Just like the BMWs you just need to look at what other countries have been doing successfully. These manufacturers will market their products to police forces all over the world.

and for comments above on reliability of the Skoda or cost of the BMW surely you are just jesting

Also to me this just shows how good XR6T/SS/SRT8 were as HWP cars, id assume they were cheaper too. Although HWP officers would probably be the only ones that would know.

Sorry but.. how does this show how good XR6T/SS/SRT8 were as HWP cars?

and the cops themselves would probably have no idea of the overall cost of ownership.

everyone here is just Guessing what they cost.

When the 5 series came into NSW hey patrol, NSW police commissioner (I think) said the BMW had the same lifetime cost as the commodore. Sounds like leasing talk.

People going on like the Falcons/Commodores were bullet proof?

Can you imagine the diff bush wear rate on the Falcons since 2002!

GovCo would be getting a sizeable fleet discount too.

Everyone is missing the elephant in the room.

This is a huge win for station wagons.

Fear the wagon.

No - the total cost of ownership puts it in the best category despite the up front capital cost.

Some states are politically gun shy of this and the badge perception - but they are missing out

Each for their own.

I’ve noticed in SA some new Tiguan marked cop cars, don’t know if they replaced the Kia Sorrentos or added to the fleet.

I crapped out my 4L60E in 135,000km

Though mind you cost less than $3000 to get it built though.

Friends of mine here in Bundy run around half a dozen Octavia wagons and they reckon they are the best taxis they have had; been running taxis for 25 years, before Bundy they were running taxis in Melbourne for 18 years....so for them to call them the best they've had is no small call.

You wouldn't be the only one, those old things were bloody awful.

And now for a bit of trivia: Škoda translates to "loss, bad outcome or damage". Quite fitting for the old ones, perhaps not so for the new ones.
