Interesting the relationship between Jemaah Islamia and Al Qaeda - apparently all over SE Asia, JI "operatives" have infiltrated a LOT of Islamic charity organisations and are funnelling funds into Al Qaeda. There's a couple of great books out now detailing a lot of the workings of both of them, some pretty rivetting and scary stuff, and definitely is an eye opener for those of us whose only media exposure to the outside world is our stupid local compromised commercial tv stations and papers.

Although a good portion would be true to some degree, I'm sure you would find much of it just propaganda.

Take for example the US military chaplain last night telling of how soldiers at Guantanomo are told that all of the prisoners they hold are ' directly ' involved with the planning and/or execution of 9/11. Its been shown in so many doccos that the US intelligence services doctor certain paperwork to work in their advantage, and then leak it through genuine sources. Dont you find it strange that Bin Laden no longer makes videos, the main reason for which was to prove to the world and his followers that he is still around, but strangely they are all voice recordings. These are even anonimously sent to the agencies alot of the time.

Im not saying their is no threat, simply asking where is the threat really coming from, especially when you consider that a certain country makes no bones about its military might and that it's not afraid to use it.

I guess all that I'm saying is that Free Thought is just that, it's free, so don't let anyone influence you, not even me if you don't agree.

Happy thinking

Read the books and see if you still think the same afterwards. The books vary in source, ranging from journos with not a lot of direct involvement in the area (just outside commentary, albeit informed), to those who are locals and have had family members involved. Certainly there is a degree of guesswork and estimation, but the latter group unsurprisingly offers insightful and believable testimony.

From all that I've digested ever since the Bali bombings (where I lost a friend), and that triggered my desire to uncover more about these madmen, JI is the #1 threat to our country without question, and to think otherwise is a sure sign of either misinformation or blatant apathy. py:

Edit : Just to make my original point clear, I wasn't saying that the Islamic charities themselves were involved in funding Al Qaeda, but rather, the people who had infiltrated them and were siphoning monies out.

Please don't missinterpret or missunderstand what I'm saying, I do not for one minute believe that JI or even in fact Al Qaeda are no threat, quite the contrary in fact. What I am saying though is that alot of this ' CAN ' quite often be propaganda, do you honestly think that journos care about the truth, more often thatn not its the story and how sensational or headline grabbing it is. I am sorry for yours and anyone else on here for friends lost in such attacks.

Its just after all the recent stories like the beating of the kids that really makes me think what exactly the troops are still doing their, I'm sure alot of what is happening is due to frustration on their part but still I think its time to leave. Saddam is gone the elections are over, what more can anyone do sooner or later they have to be left to their own way of life and living.

Again please don't take what I have said the wrong way.
