It might be tactical. Give the market too much and they have to sell them cheaper and they become less desirable.

Surely Ford can put a production cap on them. And if they differentiated each year... wouldn't be a problem. But that's not the issue now anyways. Just sad to see that great model gone again.

The GT Mustang now puts out 420 hp, I think Ford will do another special Mustang for 2014... maybe a Cobra Jet?

Given it will be the last year of the current Mustang platform, it is hardly surprising. Automakers arent going to spend what they dont need to on what will soon be replaced. Come 2015 with an all new car I suggest it will be back to business as usual.

They said from the start they were only doing the two model years 12/13, don't know why it's suddenly news
They already do a Cobra Jet (MY2013). Last edited by MAGPIE; 09-11-2012 at 09:34 PM. |

The 2015 Mustang will be using an evolution of the existing S197 platform, spy shots of the 2015 mules show differences under the skin .

I'm pretty sure that the Boss 302 was only ever going to be a 2 year run. 3000 302's and 1000 Laguna Seca's

I guess they're paralleling the original '69/70-only run of the Boss 302.
When the all-new Mustang comes out for 2015, I would expect the GT to be the top model. They'll probably do what they did for '05: introduce only the coupes first, then add a convertible 6 months or so later, then add a GT500 in another model year or so, and then add something between the GT and GT500 a few years after that (maybe a Mach 1 next time). It's a way to sustain interest in the brand.

The 2008 Bullitt was going to be a Boss 302, but they (wisely) decided that a 15 hp upgrade wasn't enough to be a Boss (and they didn't like the sound of "Boss 4.6" or "Boss 281").
They definitely did the Boss right. I'd rather have a Boss 302 than a GT500.
