Default how do I keep my original number plates QLD

as title says,

I'm de-registering my XA falcon, so I can do some work on it over the next couple of years, but I want to alto keep the original plates, so when I go to register it, put the plates back on.
These are the original 32yr old plates that where on the vehicle since new, (black background with white letters/numbers) - removable letters.

do I have to purchase them as a custom numberplate? or what...

Not sure about QLD but here in NSW you just pay a yearly holding fee for the plate to be stored at the RTA, I'd guess they have something similar in QLD.

Just be careful as I have had the RTA "accidently " destroy a set of yellow and black nsw plates whilst in storage, their response was oh well we'll get them remade for free in the new reflective style........
After my experience I'd be tempted to keep it registered especially if there was no annual insection.

Regards,
Tote

"Didn't you let the car run out of rego & Forgot to hand the plates in " ? ? ?

There's heaps of cars here (NSW) in paddocks with plates still on them .

In QLD you can buy them as a personal combo. Go to www.ppq.com.au and make contact. Do it before you deregister the car.

Just ring up PPQ and buy them, cost me $70 to buy the standard QLD ones off my AU, they sent me 2 new ones in the mail, so it wasnt like i was paying for nothing.

When I put my XA on club rego I bought my original plates at the transport department for around (from memory) $28 as a personal plate. I now own them and can do what I like with them.

Edit: It may have even been around $70 like the post above.
