Default Cam is going in...

Well, it's about friggin time too.

I bought a Crow cam from sourbastard about a month ago, got some Crow springs and retainers through EBay and *finally* got my Crow adjustable cam gear from Repco yesterday.

My two concerns is if he takes too long to install ($60/hour) and if he can't get the surface rust off the cam lobes. I managed to rid most of it, but there's still some there.

Will let you know what happens...

Well, 3 1/2 hours since I dropped it off, and haven't heard nothing. I know he didn't start working on it straight away.

No news can only be good news though...

Hope the rust isn't a prob. It killed my last cam I had in storage....

ARRRGGGGHHHHHH...

I knew this was gonna happen. Always does...

The guy I got the springs from didn't put the collets in for the springs. The old ones won't fit.

No, and here's the icing on the cake.

Crow are the ones who f**ked it. They sent springs for ED-EL.

I'm trying to get them to replace the ED-EL ones for AU springs, retainers and collets, whether that will happen is another story.

I'm about ready to cry...

I love meddling...

After no sleep, I've won.

I have the wrong retainers, which explains why they couldn't fit the old collets on. My mech is sending back the wrong retainers for the right ones. The ones I have now are for a EA, how they figure they fit an AU has got me stumped.

All is well...

Well, it's not an LPG cam. Just one of the standard cams they have.

It's either 2222549, or 2232549, on the Crow website. I definately know the 2549 part, it's printed on there. The part I don't know is if it's 222 or 223. sourbastard thinks it's 222.

I'm going to ring him this afternoon to see if the new retainers have come, then try an get a guestimate of when I can have it back.

Well, I've completely lost the mod bug. This episode did it...

I posted in the Bar about it, apparantly the retainers missed the cut-off for delivery and they won't get to my mechanic until Monday.

After the Unichip goes in, I'm saving for a BA XR6T...

That's exactly why I'm going to save for one...

I've come to a realisation through all this mess, it just simply isn't worth modifying your car when there are others that come straight from factory that are more powerful than what you already have...

Well... update time...

The package from Crow arrived in Brisbane last Friday (when it was meant to be overnight, ordered Wednesday), but due to "cut-off" times for delivery, has been held up.

If it doesn't get to my mechanic today, Australian Air Express will be wearing the full brunt of my anger, I was a house-b**ch all weekend...

How friggin long does it take to change valve springs???

This afternoon when I get it back, I'm just going to give him what I think is fair, tell him to take it or leave it. He said to me it would be ready yesterday afternoon, and it wasn't, they were still changing valve springs...

get your rage on kenny. i think its fair enough to only pay em for waht they said they'd do. i've had a mech do work on my car and i asked to be called if anything on top of what i was quoted was needed. i get back there and theres another $200 on top for some parts. i told him that he should have called me cos i didnt have the money to give him and asked why i should pay it. i did have the cash but im not paying dodgy mechs who replace parts that are fine. or whatever he did.

It's now 10:23am...

If it's not finished right now, he ain't getting another cent out of me. I've got a price I'd be happy paying him, but not a cent more.

He was saying because the valve springs are double (big thick outside spring, smaller internal one), that they are a pain.

Hows that?

7 days.

There was a major f**k-up with the retainers, which cost me 3 days.

Don't ever do a deal with a bloke on Ebay who runs a store called Custom Engines. He has no idea with the later model engines...

Which means they've had it for 4 days to get a cam in????
Geez, JMM, G&D or ACE could strip, rebuild and modify the whole head... and probably the whole engine in that time.. and do other work on the side.

I know Casper.

It's really hard to find someone in my area who actually knows about Falcon I6's (I had to tell one guy that it was an overhead cam engine) and can do work with them.

you gotta remember that the furthur out the back of woop woop you get, the more holdens there are and the pool of qualified ford mechanics drops right off.
