Default How many people with boat licences

??? going for mine tomorrow 9:30am ... this is not a thread about how to pass but how you went score % and if you ended up getting to use your license or you just wasted the $60 or so on the license lol.

i've been doing the test on the net havn't missed a beat getting 100% all the time so i'm pretty much sure i'd pass :P

after i get my GBOL i will get my PWCL... just for the hell of goin and getting them . always liked boats so i'd definately get one evantually!

everytime i'm bord i'd go to the werribee south beach just to cruise and walk the beach some times, looks great with the moon reflecting off the water etc

Mate do both at once the test isn't that hard just read the questions and you will be ok. Learn your marker lights and nav lights and flags. They are the only tricky ones. All the rest is common sence. Saves 2 bookings

the guy asked me if i wanted to do both at same time .. i said nah.. just boat licence .. get it out the way first

i worked out the navs and flags.. everything is mapped into my head lol

keep as far right as practical in a narrow river
keep to the right of red nav lights
5knots 200metres from shore and closer. and bathers
0.00% alco. for under 21y.o's (i'm lucky )

just few of the things off the top of my head

Lol, Boat Licence was great!!!

The guy was so helpful, he gave us hints, and kept telling us the answers. But it's a pretty easy test.

I think score wise i got 96%, or something similar.

I've got one. I got it when they first came out in about 2001 or 2002. It's great fun to drive a boat, but sadly it looks like I won't be doing it this summer. We take the boat out to Lake Glenmaggie for water skiing, but it is very low at the moment, as all the other e-series people who went to the Glenmaggie camp can tell you. Where we were driving is usually underwater at this time of year! I think on the test, I only got one question wrong. I forget what % that is though. I've only really driven the boat in the summer, but I still reckon it was worth getting a licence

Good luck!

did you do the physical test or the computer test

with the physical test .. they apparently take you out and teach you the inns and outs etc.. then give you a certificate which you take to the RTA and they hand you your license.

?

I got my full boat licence the day before I turned 16.
I went with my Dad, just after he bought a boat.

I think the boat has only been in the water twice, and it was pretty much a disaster.

Sure we had all the necessary stuff; Life jackets, water, spare fuel, oars...
It was only when something went wrong with the newly rebuilt motor (a Holden), that we realised all that stuff was back on shore, in the back of the ute.
Along with our shoes. Dad was too precious to let us wear them on his new floor...

So we were literally up the creek without a paddle. Hilarious when we recount it now, but not so funny at the time.

Got my RMDL (boat licence) when I was 19 (23 now). It was a practical test and theory test. Passed it first go in my new tinny, with two of mates doing their tests on the same day, also in my boat.

Got my PWC licence at the end of last year before the new laws started in QLD. It was only a theory test and I have never actually had a go on a jet ski.....

Love boating and fishing.
She's only a 14ft tinny, but still a lot of fun.

Good luck mate

I think i got mine from the same place. In town up some laneway off the street eureka is in? Went into a room, about a dozen of us, looked through a book and filled it out as a group being told the answers and then just took the certificate to vic roads. Think it cost me about $50 plus about $22 for the card when i took the certificate to vic roads. So easy!

Got my motorbike license in 20 mins too! Rode a motorbike for 2 laps of a car park and back into the shed, signed 3 forms, they photo copied my license so they had my details for when they filled all of the forms out for me, had my pic taken and then handed over the cash! An before you think that must have been 20 years ago, it was this year. Some shady operators out there

Got mine when I turned 16 for use in NSW (Vic didn't need a licence back then). Converted it to a Vic one when my NSW one expired and Vic licence was required, was cheaper than NSW too!!!
When they bought in the PWC endorsement I went and got that too. 20years ago is waaayyy to long to remember what score I got, but I passed first time...lol

Waterways site

The local waterways guys held a day at Port Stephens (NSW) for people to go, they talk to you about it and you do the test, no practical, it's easy i got 100% and so did most people. only went for a couple of hours at most.
What do you have to do in a practical test?

Simple saying.....

When heading in to port.... Keep Port to Port

And obviously, when heading out of port, keep port to starboard

Had a boat, but never got a license. You can drive a boat without a license - as long as you don't go over 10 knots. So I never got caught going more than 10 knots (top speed was 38/39 knots - around 80km/h).

All the best for your license/licence test.

Looking into it at the moment. Seems I'll need a boat license for PWC on the murray.
Will hopefully buy a jet ski once I'm informed enough as to what's good & bad.

I got mine at 15 in NSW. We never really had boats, however I was a member of the Sea Scouts, and because of this I had to have my Boat License.

Today, it has proven invaluable, as I have a 18 Foot Bow Rider, which, has taken over from my Car as my Pride and Joy. It'll do 50 Knots flat out, but that is downhill with a Tailwind.

That is certainly the case here in SA.

Got my boat licence probably about 5 years ago. Never have owned a boat, but have recently needed it to tow the families kids around in my wife's uncle's boat on holidays.

All good fun. The only questions I got wrong were the upstream/downstream directions ones on the test. Thankfully they weren't compulsory questions. In SA, it's just a written test, 20 questions, 6 compulsory questions, and the licence doesn't expire. Cost me $25 to sit the test and $22 for the licence.

Wow, you guys down south have to renew your licence???

Up here in QLD we never have to renew it. It is a lifetime licence (for boat).

Also, we dont have an actual licence card. It takes the licence number as our QLD drivers licence and is included on the same card (even tho it doesent say so on the drivers licence card).

Geez, it sounds like a real effort down there in the southern states!!!
I think our laws changed a year ago? But I dont know what the changes where to the process....

Got mine when I turned 16 (about 9yrs ago now). Dad knew a bloke that did testing so me and my brother met the guy at the boat ramp and went for a cruise up the river. He just asked a few questions and made us do a figure 8 then gave us a slip to take to QLD transport. We gave him a carton and everyone was happy :hihi:

Whats the deal with the new laws reguarding PWC in QLD? Can we still drive them with our "Recreational shipmasters licence"?

BTW when I got my licence we actually were given a card with details printed on it as a licence. Mine fell apart in my wallet within 12mths but my brother was a bit smarter and got his laminated.

yep got mine with PWC. We went to Bornia marine, and they offer a 2 hour lecture on everything then they give you a test at the end..........dead easy. There were over 30 people when i went for it and the guy just ticked everything as all correct. I mean how easy can it get?. But you do have to pay $100 for it though.

So since that we have been drving our boat when ever we can. Top km on portphillip is 102km, but thats when the water is good and your not hitting everybody's waves.!!

I just got my licence renewal today. When it first was talked about we were told we would be learning rules of the sea etc, and thats fair enough, but why do we have to pay for it every year? Its another revenue raising thing.

I hate Brax.
