I feel your pain - not good when your pride and joy gets damaged. On another tread people were discussing the pros and cons of rear parking sensors. Even though I dont have them on either of the cars I drive, I can tell you I can park closer to the car behind with the longer car with the boot which I drive less frequestly than the tiny Fiesta. The flat and high back means the other cars nose just disappears. Drivers beware!

I was very busy looking. What happened was that i was reversing out of my spot and looking left and right, and looking in the rearview mirror and someone on the otherside was reversing at the same thing. We're both at fault. The good thing though is that the car was on her way to the smash repairshop just a little more than an hour later. Picked-up at home and will be assessed, repaired and brought back home when fixed. RACV Valet Service. This is an trial from the RACV. Made me feel a bit better, but the wife is still not impressed. Regards, Rob |

I blame Fordel, he wanted to see some mods. _2:
May as well get some colour coding while it's there.

I feel your pain, literally.
:( I was looking whilst I was reversing, however there's a massive blind spot in the C Pillar (The metal pillar between the taillight and the side window) that covered a huge pole. I was just about to come to a complete stop and go forwards too, when the impact happened :togo: . At least you have Comprehensive Insurance which is more than I can say for myself ("If I damage my own car, then I can use the money I saved from not paying full comprehensive for a 17yo" - Me : ) I'm looking at upwards of $3500 for repairs...

Should have got full comp, couldnt be that much
Did you pay for your car in cash or did you get a loan ? Thought you had to have full comp with a loan

Paid in Cash.
Comprehensive for the stock Fiesta would be $2500 at best. (This is through JustCarInsurance. Through AAMI [who are JCI's parent company] it's somewhere around $3000 comprehensive). Which is 'OK' considering that for a 5 year old Aussie built sedan, it would cost me $3500 through JustCar. And I live in a fairly decent suburb, so it's got nothing to do with crime or anything. I do, however, have Third Party PROPERTY damage in the event that I hit someone else, damage to their car is covered. I'm paying $650 p.a for that plus fire & theft (up to $5000) But you gotta remember that I live in Sydney which for some reason or another, the insurance is overinflated. I did the exact same quote for a car in Sydney and then in Melbourne and there was a $1000 difference alone. Then another $400 less for regional Victoria. And in Adelaide, I'd assume it's even cheaper. I have heard of a 19/20 year old paying just $750 p.a comprehensive on his extensively modified Ralliart Magna in S.A.

$2500 for a stock fez, mate how many times have you been in jail? Something is seriously wrong there.
Do you own the car outright? IMO your nuts to not have full comp if you are still paying it off.

Sorry about your damage, i know how you feel. But it is just scary to see it being in nearly the same spot as mine For once i have to say that it is one of those times when being older has it's benefits. I hope the final cost will be a bit less for you. Regards, Rob

That still doesn't make sense, you buy a ~>$15k car and then only get third party. Lesson learnt I guess.

Insurance $2k on a sub $20k non performance car is just crazy irrespective of how old you are. Here I was complaining to the wife when I was quoted $400.

Dom, $400 p.a is definitely cheap for comprehensive insurance. Who are you with?
I'm paying around $1200 p.a for comprehensive insurance with Just Car Insurance. AAMI doesn't like anyone under 25 to mod his/her vehicle. (I was driving un-insured for 3-4 months... yikes ). Once I turn 25, I'll use AAMI again. |

Ivan, I am insured with Allianz. Mind you, being 40 may have something to do with it.
