Default Sporty new Camry RZ!

Toyota Camry RZ Sporty special edition from $31,990

Car Advice

Quote:
The sports-inspired Toyota Camry RZ special edition has been introduced to Australia, expanding the top-selling mid-sized sedan’s line-up to seven variants.

On sale now from $31,990, the Toyota Camry RZ is $1500 dearer than the entry-level Camry Altise on which it’s based.

Apart from being the first Camry to be available in Inferno Orange – previously reserved for the Toyota 86 and Corolla Levin ZR – the RZ special edition also gets unique black front fog light surrounds, dusk-sensing sports headlights with dark inserts, a black-accented front grille, ‘RZ’ decals, a gloss black boot-lip spoiler and larger gloss black 17-inch alloy wheels (up from 16s).

Powered by a 135kW/231Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder – up 2kW on Camry Altise but down 4Nm on Atara – and claiming an unchanged combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 7.8L/100km, the Camry RZ employs the standard sedan’s six-speed automatic transmission but shares additional kit with the current Atara range

Toyota claims it "brings out the bad in dad"...

I love how they spin marketing sometimes, for starters, inferno used to be available on previous gen Camry and Aurion and it is not available on 86 (that colour is called Velocity Orange and is brighter).

It's kinda funky for a Camry, but yes, it is still a Camry. I have a showroom demonstrator for sale right now ;)

So it has black accents and wheels and 135kw? Move over GT-F, there is a new King of Aussie sports sedans...

Nope, whilst its an improvement on their previous effort, it still misses the mark.
I can understand their motivation, they are trying to combat the reality that only men with no further use for their testicles would buy a Camry for themselves, but for mine this doesn't quite get there.

Shouldn't it be "brings out the bad in Grandad"?
Must have got lost in translation.

I've always thought of a sporty Camry as a bit of an oxymoron

Let's not confuse the journo calling it sporty with Toyota calling it sporty shall we? Toyota don't claim it to be sporty, but sports inspired - which is not untrue given it has the stiffer suspension etc.

Also don't confuse this with being anything other than a Falcon SR or value added pack like any other brand.. they're not trying to claim that this is the best car to grace the market.

Be aware Australia, this is the stuff we will be left with once the FALCON and COMMODORE are gone. Ooh it's got an extra 2kw! It's so sporty.

They followed FPV's lead by giving their special edition a nominal power increase, black spoilers and dark wheels and some stickers. It will sell.......

I reckon they should be producing Hybrid version similar to this car......Electric motors produce alot of torque so 0-100 times would'nt be too bad.

I'll be interested to see what they do with the next facelift. That looks to be a pretty nice looking car (for a Camry).

I agree and I think the "bad in dad" is actually quite funny and smart.

I wouldnt be surprised if many companies will start pushing a bit harder with their mid to large sedans once the locals start dropping off.
