Default SLOWEA...needs surgery.

Well guys, I removed rocker cover tonight...and I'm still tryin to find what this knocking noise is?. I'm hoping its just a lifter that's let go, but at the moment I can't see one thats not pumping up. So...i will try changing the whole rocker rack over...and if that doesn't fix....The head will have to come off. Either way, I think she'll be out of action for a while!. It needs an Auto...and the 9 inch fitted. And if it does turn out to be a major engine problem.....I'm gonna go bigger and better...and really chase some big numbers next time! :

Hey Slowea, sorry to hear bout that, before you go changing anything just try unplugging the injector plugs or spark plug leads one at a time, what this does is takes the load off that cylinder, if the noise goes away its hurt a bearing in the bottom end. Its the easiest way to check this stuff without pulling an engine out. Hope this helps

Cheers MRD

when is the knock sound there?
i have fixed many falcons with engine knocks and lifter noise
just cause your lifters are pumping up doesnt mean anything,
pull off your whole valve train and check rockers for side way
movment and check rocker dowels for wear, all ok then get an
air blower and blow out every single oil gallery in the valve train
still noisey and lifters repalced then i got more tips for ya. just
use the flat head stethascope trick.

to me, the sound was a bit deeper then just a lifter.
there is a video of EASPRINTS car at the drags where u can hear the noise.

Sorry to hear Dave. It sounded a bit like a "gudgen" (spelling) pin to me but I was hoping it was just a lifter.

Sounds a lot like a dead lifter to me. It's too sharp to be a bottom end problem. Could be a pin or a broken piston or something though I spose.

i think the sound is your engine asking for a bigger turbo

It does sound ALOT like a big end bearing.
I spun a bearing in my supra and it sounded exactly the same
the knocking was actually the piston hitting the head hopefully you haven't done
too much damage but it's not as though they're expensive engines just build a better one
go on you know you want to ;)

Ok guys....well just letting u know....my engine is coming out. So Will be out of action for a while... We're thinking its spun a bearing or bent a rod?. So i'll take it out...fix it, and drop it back in with an auto bolted on the back....
