Default 2 ea falcons, both sick

got a pair of ea falcons. having a bit of trouble with both. hopefully sum1 here might b able to offer a suggestion
car 1 oct 1988 ea 3.9 cfi auto: impossible to drive until it warms up, just keeps stalling. drinks petrol at a rapid rate. sounds like it is surging at idle in neutral. very sluggish to get moving from standing start (wont even spin wheels on dirt!!!!) but once it is moving it isnt too bad.
have replaced cat converter, computer, tried different exhaust sensor, temp sensor, throttle sensor and icf solenoid and air temp sensor. checked timing etc self diagnostic test thingy says map sensor is not functioning correctly so swapped for a know good one and it still says it is faulty. could map sensor cause any of the problems i have listed? also after changing map sensor and computer and still having error the problem must be in wiring harness??
car 2 march 1989 ea 3.9 cfi auto:very rich at idle. good once warmed up. self diagnostic report everything ok. is drivable as is but plumes of black smoke from exhaust on startup dont look good to me. havent tried anything to fix it yet

Did you check the MAP sensor hose aswell, they always crack and give a false reading
causing it to run like S@#$.
