My car got stolen yesterday.....I don't need to be reminded of how much this sucks.
I am trying to look up and onwards, by looking for a replacement. I am aware that I might get it back, however its either burnt by now, or off to be stripped. If the latter is the case, if anyone get cheap BF XR8 (like the BA GT calipers etc) parts offered to them, please let me or the police know. These kinds of people need to be stopped. My dilemma is I need something to get myself and my daughter around, and it needs to be safe. I did consider a cheap junker-but thats not what I consider safe. I have looked at another XR8, but I have done it twice now, and I am a bit over it. Also thought about an XR6 turbo, as my spare ZF and Diff, plus interior bits will fit it. I have an alloy block, forged bottom end, new heads etc for my anticipated build. Also have the tru trac that I was meant to have put in by now, ready for a track day on the 8th. I am disappointed that I can't race now, but its a plus I still have the $1200 diff centre. I am keeping all these bits. I have wanted to make a project ute, like a 57 mainline, for a while. I am really thinking of putting BF XR8 running gear under whatever I decide on. So I am thinking of maybe just getting a $6k daily, neat, safe, cheap to register, run and insure, and save my pennies for the project idea with all my spare bits. (4 cyl, maybe turbo?) I have wasted HEAPS over the years on my daily car, so maybe this is my opportunity to finally grow up a little, and save some cash, plus fulfil my want for the special project. If anyone knows of some vehicles that might fit the bill for a daily, or the project vehicle, your POSITIVE input would be greatly appreciated.

Don't make it to public that your looking for another car already, if the insurance found out they may give reason to investigate and delay your payout.

As for the car you need I would choose a 4 cylinder economy type car for now.... but you will have to make that final call.... as I m hopeless at picking cars for friends. Sorry about your car being stolen by a lowlife and I hope you find it undamaged.

Buy a cheapo falcon on LPG for the daily ie BF and then send the rest into the mainline - at least its not going to depreciate like new cars.

How do you even steal a new car like a bf?, they would have to have the keys yes?
it would also be useless on the market? but yes keep a eye out for parts. Sorry to hear for your loss |

2 sets of keys from said vehicle can be used to code another key and come back and steal the car whenever they like. Get a GT for a replacement.

Sorry for your loss mate.
If I was in your position, I would get a falcon on gas. They are cheap to run, comfortable to drive, still have plenty of power for everyday driving, and they're safe too.

Au wagon on gas, low maintenence live rear axle, a bit simpler in electronics than later models, lots of space and still plenty of parts available, and cheap to fuel up, this would be my choice.
Ps, hope your car comes back. |

There are unlimited BA XR6s for under $8k with the odd BF in the same range.
Just get petrol, all the LPG enthusiasts are down south were LPG is not almost $1/litre and 200km is a long trip. |

2006 model, basic and reliable, sips fuel. Just use this for your A-B car, getting to and from work, parking at the shops etc then get a project car to waste all your spare money on |

My stolen car was LPG (dual fuel) , but it had to be as it was a tuned 260. Thats the only thing making it worthwhile for daily duties....please come home soon car.
I personally don't see a hyundai as being very safe when it comes to carrying my daughter, however your idea is valid. Turbo hyundai anyone?

Personally I wouldn't get too far ahead with deciding what to get just yet, as it was only stolen yesterday and there could be a good chance it is recovered. The insurance payout would also have an effect on what car you may end up with, if the car is deemed written off or not recovered.
And how long will you need to wait until the insurance company decides it isn't going to be recovered, if that's the case? |

I wasn't going to get into disagreements over differences of opinions.
A Getz might be fine for me (however much a dent in the pride it would be), but the father in me would just not allow my 3yo to be strapped in the back with the quality of drivers here in Brisbane. I do appreciate all suggestions, and the viewpoint they are made from.

As the OP has just said the car has been stolen, he did not advise how it has been stolen. I just said that he should not make it to public he is looking for another car, not that he should not be thinking about what car to get. And from my experience people who have had a car stolen, do not start looking at what they can get a day after it has been stolen. I am not implying that the OP arranged anything or was involved any sort of way. I was just giving some advice. |

Sorry to hear about your car, that truely sucks.
I would get a dedicated sprint's car. I used to use my old WRX as a sprint and daily car and it was just chewing up too much money. Also with 2 kids and the car having a low safety rating, it was time to get a bigger car. Personally I'd get a bigger car than a Getz. Sounds like another Falcon is the way to go. I've found going from a very quick nimble car to the XR50 very pleasing. The XR is plenty fast for the road. Glad I didn't get another turbo as I'd burn another hole in my pocket.
