Default Shannons quotes

Quote:
EDIT: Juts noticed there's another thread about Shannons, but it's been locked. This one isn't accusing them of anything, just wondered if anyone else has tried to do an online quote.
Has anyone else tried to do a Shannons online quote lately?
I decided to do one for our 1982 Celica, as we only use it maybe once a week, sometimes only a couple of times a month, so perhaps a more "specialist" insurance might be better than the "normal" Allianz one we have for it and the G6E.

I went through and did the online quote, and then hit a snag when I got to the end. I put down a figure for "sum insured", and put down what I considered a reasonable sum...$8000. I mean, it's literally like new, it only has 140,000km on it, and only a couple of mods, but otherwise it's in outstanding condition for an '82 Celica. When I got to the end, it said that was too high an amount. I had to keep going back until I got down to a figure of $5000, and then it would let me do a quote.
I said usage was only a few times a month.
Then, after putting in that value which I consider way too low for the standard of the car, I entered our no claim bonus discount (got off the paperwork from Allianz) of 60%, I still came out with a premium of over a hundred bucks more than we pay at Allianz for full comprehensive, being able to use the car every day (about $460 compared to $340 with Allianz).

Do people with more experience dealing with Shannons think I could get a better deal if I just rang them and did a quote over the phone? Or would the end result still be pretty much what the online quote is?

Never even tried using their online service, I've just phoned the
And found them a lot easier to deal with than my previous insurer

At my last renewal I found a mistake in the agreed value and premium price on the 38, a 3 minuet phone call sorte it all out

Seems to me with the other thread and your problem that their online quote system needs a little sorting out.

All said and done as far as insurers go I'm reasonably happy

I tried the online quote when i was first looking... Didnt like the amount so i rang then.

Very helpfull and sorted me out quick smart! They have been very flexible with any requests i have asked and my engine rebuild has been taken into account and got a higher agreed value.

I have been very happy with their service!

Best to ring them. A computer operated quoting system wont be able to take into account your exact situation like a real person can

I dont know why people bother with shannons. Overpriced in my opinion. Try Ryno or Vigil. Same details lower premiums, no headaches.

You could try going in to one of their shopfronts, someone comes outs and has a look over the car to see if its worth what you want for it.

Are you serious? They are the cheapest insurance company around.I have a Fg f6 and was quoted many times over $1500 dollars.Shannons $569 dollars.

They are the only company that will insure a modified car too.

Shannons have been nothing but sensational for me.

Fast, efficient, helpful, friendly, I have nothing but good things to say about them. I have another 2 cars that will be moving over to Shannons shortly.
Might even talk to them about the home this time.

Everyone is still price driven

Your Allianz Policy is Market Value yeah as it is over 10 years old and I very much doubt Allianz will do an agreed value policy for a 1982 car.
Market Value what is the Market Value of your car - insert unknown figure here?????

What Excess does the Allianz Policy Have
What Excess does the Shannons Policy Have

Allianz do not include Windscreen/Glass Cover
Shannon's include Windscreen/Glass Cover

Allianz will not give you retention of wreck if a total loss
Shannon's will give you retention of wreck if a total loss

So sure Allianz is CHEAPER but there are reason's they are chaper as noted above

Shannon's $460 compared to Allianz's $340 premium

That is an extra $120 to have you car insured for an Agreed Value - they will probably give you a higher agreed value if you go to their office and have the car assessed

To Include Retention of wreck
To Include Windscreen/Glass Protection
To Include Choice of Repairer

So what are you looking for - CHEAP insurance or do you want to insure your car properly

One minus with starting an new car cover with Shannons is your Rating or No Claim Bonus is not protected on that vehicles until you have been insured with them for 2 years with no at fault claims - this may have changed though.

Yep tried them last time got a quote that was about 15% more expensive than shanons

So I took that in to account and the good service and ease of doing business with them and stained with Shannon's

I found shannons really good, youve got to use the phone though the online system is useless. No one else would insure my highly modified XF Falcon which has had thousands of dollars of mods and a v8 conversion but still an official redbook market value of about 2c.

Just cancelled all my policies with Shannon's, way overpriced, they wanted $1200 to insure my BF GT with less than 20.000km on the clock to drive once a month

Everyone else will do it for about half that, and to be driven daily.

Service is shocking, watch your policy as they sneakily drop the agreed value several thousand dollars when they send your renewal but the premium goes up several hundred. How can they insure my car for less, yet charge more to do so If they want to drop the agreed value, I can understand that, as the car depreciates, but then drop the premium, not increase it

Last renewal, with a $5000 drop in value for a car that was driven 2000km in 12 months, and an increase in premium of several hundred was the last straw......so bye bye Shannon's, just greedy.

PS I have maximum no claim bonus, no accidents or claims for over 20 years, no fines or ticket and 25 years driving experience. And I live in rural NSW, in a zero crime area. So what gives. I have my daily driver insured for 45k and only pay $600 a year, obviously not with Shannon's who wanted over $1000.

I tried to quote up my F6s with them online (cant be bothered with all the rubbish you have to go through on the phone with insurance companies) but obviously FPVs are not enthusiasts cars and are not listed.

I remember not even being able to get a quote from them at all until i turned 25.. So anyone under cant be an enthusiast either..
Ill keep using AAMI thanks.

I'm pretty sure Shannons won't give you retention of a wreck if total loss unless the car is more than 20 years old.
I have been insuring with them (6 cars annually) for over 10 years but I will be shopping around when the renewal comes up. They have slowly become more mainstream (read pricey) and more arrogant as the years have gone by.

$1,200 for a BF GT40th presumably insured for over $45k with 20k kms I think is not too bad considering mine was $1,600 for a BA GT 45k kms with AAMI insured for $30k.

Have you moved from Hoxton park. If not then I think that puts you in the Liverpool/Fairfield general locality which is deemed to be higher than average risk according to a broker mate of mine . I'm at Sylvania and AAMI deem that as being in the lowest risk of all Sydney suburbs (but have my doubts as to why sometimes ) so can't see why mine is more than yours....same old age, driving experience, accident history, garaged yada yada so not sure why I'm being ripped.

Also premium is not all related to age of car and insured value...Years ago my EB Fairmont insured for a pawltry $5k cost me $750 a year to insure...traded that for a new BA XR6 in 2004 valued at $40k and I got a premium refund as the annual premium dropped to $600. It's all to do with risk and as cars age parts are harder to come by (according to their theory)

I have had my eb ghia insured with shannons for years, had an agreed value of over 7000.
I got insurance through them because they sponsored a car cruise i went on and organised it there.
Dealing with them over the years over the phone and they are going south rapidly, they only just put up the value of my car and lowered the premium for god knows what reason but i said cool ill take that.
Spoke to them the other day and they have dropped the value, raised the premium and want to take away my salvage rights if my car is a writeoff(wtf)
The salvage rights cost me 150 per year and they said the premium rise was because of salvage rights going up,ask them by how much and they say it cost 150 dollars still(wtf)
They are up and down like a whores drawers and im sick of their attitude,i wouldnt recommend them to anyone.
They are as consistent as a hit in the head.
Ring up one day and get the most helpful person in the world, next day they want to treat you like poo.

$600 a year for GT-E insured for 82k with AAMI. I ramp up the excess to $1800 to reduce premium. With the money I have saved doing that I could pay that $1800 excess a few times if need be. Windscreen claims have no excess etc. and I select the extra windscreen coverage. I am in the country though.

It's actually quite interesting, I choose Shannon's because it works for me, I've used others before, both main stream and enthusiast, and Shannon's is what suits me currently.

It seems there are a few that work the same as me and are with Shannon's and others that fit other insurers better

I guess it comes down to type of vehicle (in my case pre70 aside from the grocery getter

I'm also on acres with all insured cars in full lock up garage.

For the record the daily insurance premium was only slightly better than GIO / NRMA but it is agreed value, choice of repairer windscreen cover and hire car so we you throw those on the other it makes it a lot more expensive to go with GIO NRMA, I wasn't fussed on the windscreen thing (figured I hadn't done one in ages) well it worked for us got the car in September did a windscreen in Jan, rang the they patched me through to obrians all three of us worked out a time and it was no problem. Considering the crap I've been through with NRMA in the past for a no fault claim I thought it was as painless as possible

Shannons were the best for me as well for my Subaru. Cheaper than AAMI and SGIC and considering I was a past customer they made sure I was getting a good deal to get repeat business.

Shannons would not isnure my BA GT because I did not have a garage, So I went to Just Car.

The worst part of all is I worked for Suncorp at the time. Suncorp own Shannons and Just Car so same company was getting my money.

Default Re: Shannons quotes

Wouldn't touch them with a 10 ft barge pole.

I tried several times over the phone with my 32 gtr... First phonecall I was told they don't insure skylines, then I got a ridiculous price then the next caller was unsure of how to process the quote... I've only heard bad thngs about Shannons- I wonder how many people "happy" with Shannons have actually tried to claim from them. An insurance company can only be tested and rated after you need them to fulfill their part of the deal... AAMI seems to be the best bet without going to dodgy online only insurers.

LOL it is funny, but the call center for AAMI, Shannons and Just car is all ran from the same building in Melbourne.
