Did anyone else see this on the news? Cameras with mics are to be used to detect vehicle noise. At first, the target wil be truck braking but that might be extended. Apprently, Vicroads have been doing a similar trial.

I saw something on Towards Tomorrow a little while ago that was a camera with a sniffer attached that picks up if your car is emitting too much pollution and it takes your pic and sends you a letter like a fine saying bring your car in for examination and if you don't they cancel your rego.
Something else to look forward to, luckily my Clevo is on gas. |

Are they the ones that hear the screech of tyres or loud bangs then record the last 10 or so seconds before a crash?
If so thats great. It'll make people tell the truth. Or are they camera's to record vehicle noise? If so thats great. I hate hearing cars decibles louder than they should be. I hate loud exhausts with passion. I hate loud exhausts so very very much. No one has an excuse what so ever to have a loud exhuast on a car for public roads. It is so incredibly stupid. I hate how they mute conversations when walking along a road. I hate how they freak the shed out of you when you're riding a bike or when they buzz past you whilst driving and you think 'eff me was that my car?' Freakin annoyances. They deserve to be muted.

The pollution control agencies (EPAs) have been doing this for at least 30 years!!! In NSW they have mobile units on the roads. This is probably the latest bit of technology.

So I guess you hate lawn mowers and leaf blowers as well do you. So if it was up to you we would be driving cars that have an exhaust the size of a straw. So i guess you don't have a stereo in your car then. |

I do have a radio and I turn it up a modest degree. But these buzz boxes still blare through the sweet tones coming off my Compact Disc. I'm sorry I didn't make my self more clearer. First off all my factory stipulated EF exhaust sounds about right. My next door neighbours Subaru Liberty '05 model sounds about right, with factory exhaust. My girlfriends Mazda 121 sounds like a goods van but still pretty quiet. About right I'd say with those cars. Then theres mush for brians Nissan Pulsar down the street who wakes you as he farts down the street from a night out. With guess what a super specced after market exhuast. Leaf blowers and mowers are annoying but have a job to do. Milo canned huge eff-off exhuasts prove to be useless annoyances and if you like them then fair enough but we shouldn't have to be exposed to them. After all I don't drive around with my windows down and Big Day Out spec speakers playing 'The Presets'. I like the Presets but I understand not everyone else does.

The problem with that is,if you give them this theyll come after your windsor next,it is all revenue raising plain and simple, otherwise a fine wouldnt be attached to it.. |

you will probably see these in highways heading into country towns, ie macksville etc etc, it's just not viable in the city, as for emissions, it's grey area of responsibility between police and epa, hence the delay.
Lets hops it stays that way. Cheers

I'd say these would be effective - maybe more so at night with low background noise. |

THAT'S NOT FAIR!
bugger that im not putting up with that sorta crap, wait i got an idea, if you get a test because your car is "too loud" or whatever, add another muffler and then say yep sure no probs mate, dunno why you booked me it seems pretty quiet to me, n then BAM the cameras will seem inferior! well thats my plan anyways. |

Hey New to the forums,
But they tried this in SA and failed because birds were chripping loudly in nearby trees and seeting off the cameras... |

Noticed how Harley riders can get away with open pipes, but a neat street car driven by a young fella will get pinged for a bigger tip. If a truck can use exhaust brakes, a cop car can use a siren, and my kids can make 130db every night at 3am, then bugger it I want a loud exhaust.

As far as i know the RTA in Sydney has been cracking down on trucks using
engine/exhaust/compression brakes in residential areas where not needed. Waste of time and tax payers money if you ask me. they should spend more money on widening the M5 to say the least. |
