Default Confession - I intentionally smashed up an XB Coupe

Or maybe it was an XA or XC.

The year was 1995. I was at a local fete/fair and in the amusements section, some fella had a hardtop falcon, a bumbag and a bunch of sledgehammers. $5 for 10 minutes, or somesuch. Well, me being a gung-ho kid, couldn't wait for the chance to bash up 'some old Ford'. Weilded away at the thing, smashed the roof in, A pillars were super easy to bend, had a clobber at the rear flanks and ended up by sticking the hammer through the grille. Was a thoroughly fun time.

You wouldn't get that opportunity today!

You have to look at like this... if today at was a vn or an ea no one would really care. But in 20 years time (kind of like the op) it would be sacralidge. Shame it wasn't a camira or a lazer lynx.

I care! See people wrecking em all the time out bush. People are gunna miss em when theyre nearly gone.

But an XB coupe? Argh even if it were a Laser. However if it were an I20, Corrolla, Santa fe, sportage, xtrail or any of the rest of the hideous souless crap that is sold these days then im in.

I remember the old bash a bomb stall at the school fete. Our school used Japanese wrecks as the thinner steel in the bodies gave the customers more bang for their buck.

If only people could foresee the value of the coupe.

I too trashed an XB couple and sent it on it's way to the crushers. Would have been mid to late 90's. Coupes could be bought for around $3000 to $4000.

If we take a realistic look these coupes really were a poor excuse for a motor car.The driver couldn't see out the back window and as for being worth $3000-4000 they weren't very easy to sell so I'd think that very optomistic pricing. Most buyers steered clear of the LTD -Landau because they had too many electrics to go wrong

Woah woah woah, get that truth out of here, someone re-issue this man his mandatory nostalgia goggles quickly!

But in all honesty it was probably a slightly rusted six-cyl falcon 500 with a bent chassis or somesuch. I remember people selling pretty good condition GT hardtops for $8k in the 90s.

I sent a running driveable AU S-pak to the scrappers last month, I wonder if there's gonna be this many tears when I tell the story in 20 years time? Probably not.

Old XB Falcons would have been a 'dime a dozen' back in the day.

How people used them, and what they did to them, are totally at odds to how we see them now.

Came across this on facebook, from a time before 4WD's became so widespread:

I cut up two XB coupes and and XC 302 four speed coupe along with a load of panel cuts from various wrecking yards back in the 1990s. I also cut up a Sundowner van. They weren't worth a pinch of nanny goats poo back then. I saved a hell of a lot more though, along with a shed load of parts. All sold off now but 5 years ago I had 13 cars in storage, 4 of them coupes.
