Default Drivers & their pets

Went for a drive yesterday with my son to buy some donuts, had a craving for them at about 2pm and had to drive all over town to find some, (now I know how Homer feels).

Anyway, I'm stopped at the lights & I see this tray top ute turn the corner & drive down the road at about 20 - 30 kph, swerving left & right & occasionally stopping. The lights turn green and I take off cautiously, the ute has pulled over and I'm coming up close when the moron does a U turn right in front of me in the wet, lucky for ABS there is no accident. I hit the horn and check out the driver, there's a bloody Jack Russel sitting on the drivers lap with its head almost touching the steering wheel!

What is wrong with these people?

Yeh. Frustrating.
The more time you spend on the road the more acts of idiocy you will see.

my dogs have harnesses that clip into the seat belt buckles.. Otherwise it is a free for all, they go everywhere except the drivers side... My staffy jumped out of the car window once when we were doing 40 odd km/h, nfi how he got his barge **** through the 4" gap it was down but thats when I invested in the secure harnesses for them, they just sit there now...

Haha that is pretty dumb.

My dog is good if she's not in the tray she'll just sit quietly in the passenger seat. Keeping the passenger window open seems to hold their attention pretty well as they'll have their nose out the window the whole time!!

My dogs sit behind the seats in the BA ute.
If I'm on my own, they might sit on the passenger seat.

I'd never, ever let an animal anywhere near the interior of my car! I hate animals and for the most part they hate me lol.

What an idiot that guy is.

I can remember a few years back travelling down from Toowoomba to Brisbane doing the speed limit about 105km. This brand new SS commodore came flying by with mum, dad and the three kids. The Commodore was also towing a speed boat. They got about 50m in front of me and I notice a dog sitting in the back of the boat. Was thinking to myself what a bloody stupid thing to do.

Next minute the boat goes over a bump and the poor dog is flying through the air smacks on the road rolls and tumbles (you get the picture). One of the most sickening things I have ever seen. Eventually managed to get the drivers attention about 4km further down the road.

The funny thing is that hubby was travelling behind me in the second car as I had the three kids and he was travelling with the dog safely harnessed in the back seat of the car.

I love my dog, but there is no way I will let her in my car.
I went nuts at my mother when I went to pick up the car the day I bought it, and no sooner had I said "Don't put the dog in my new car" than she opened the back door, put her on the seat and told her to have a look around. :
I don't care what they do to their own cars, but the dog is NOT allowed in mine.

Then my grandfather fell asleep in the back with his head on my window, and left a great greasy smear all over it.:

LMFAO that would explain the crappy driving then

I thought it was illegal to drive with an unseatbelted or unharnessed dog in the car anyway? I always put my doggie (Fudge) in a harness then thread the seatbelt through the designated loop.

Only issue recently was that she refused to get in the car... I realised it's cos the only time I ever take her anywhere is to the vet so she put two and two together. And yes, this time I was taking her to the vet again lmfao.

I reckon you might be right, the way the car was moving & the slow speed plus the way the dog was sitting all adds up to dog steering ute.

Bit of a thred mine here but does anyone know the rule regarding restraining your dog/pet in your car for QLD. I have been told no restraint but not on drivers lap. Personally I have harness/ strap for any in my car and generally in the back seat.

Thank you for using the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ online enquiry form on 23 September 2013 about dogs travelling in the back seat of a car.

The*Queensland Road Rules*(QRR) do not specifically require an animal to be restrained while travelling inside a vehicle. *In other words, carrying an unrestrained dog inside a vehicle is not an offence.
However, section 297 of the QRR provides that a driver must not drive a vehicle unless they have proper control of the vehicle, and also that a vehicle must not be driven if an animal is in the driver’s lap. An offence under this section carries a fine of $256 and a maximum court penalty of $2,200.

While there is no legal requirement to restrain a dog that is travelling inside a vehicle, the Department of Transport and Main Roads recommends that all animals should be restrained in some way to ensure the safety and welfare of all occupants of the vehicle and of the animal itself."

Quite silly really considering how strict they are with other laws. Whats happens if your dog gets a fright from something and jumps into your lap unexpectedly, they'll give you a fine for that probably when they could just make it law to have them restrained and eliminate the potential issues.
Mine are always tied up in the back, you wouldn't leave a child unrestrained in the back seat so why should pets be any different

I'd be worried about if you stacked the car, poor little doggie would go through the windscreen or be seriously injured from hitting the dash.

Mine are always restrained front or back. Tried the front but I prefer they be in the back though I have a tie long enough for her to have her front paws on the console. She likes to look out the front window sometimes.

Animals belong outside and that goes for the car as well as the house IMO. People that allow dogs in their house usually have grotty, smelly houses - the same goes for their car.

Was told by person running puppy preschool that if your dog is injured in a crash and was unrestrained that you can be fined for animal cruelty. Not sure how true but I use a harness in the back seat anyway. Never driven with my dog in the tray, but I put him in it in the driveway and he wasn't happy.
As for people who say no dogs in the car , hie did you get your dog? What if it needs a vet? Take it anywhere to socialise with other dogs? Or is everything within walking distance ?

I take my Staffy to the river often - in my daily car- and have the harness required. was driving back home and she managed to wriggle and twist so much she nearly cut off her oxygen supply so i pulled over and let her off. Funnily enough i WAS pulled over for an RBT. She stood on the back of the drivers seat and shoved her fat head out my open window as i was counting. tried to lick the cops arm. he never said anything and i was on my way. Still haven't worked out how to restrain the houdini safely yet.

This has what to do with the topic ?

And I'm quite sure the Queen and numerous US presidents would disagree with you.

Wish my Staffy would do that. she's like a ping pong ball in car. not happy till she's bounced off every surface and drooled in both cup holders in the console.

I have a mastiff and he just sits in the back. His routine is put head out window and let jouls flap, then pull head in and lie down for 10mins, then repeat. Never goes to the left side or front of.car. He either sleeps or does his little routine.
