Hi people. After owning projectors in the past / and them costing a fortune to purchase, little lone the price of a replacement globe after around 4000hrs use, and in the past old projects being a bit washed out in colour / blacks being grey etc etc /and not viewable realy in daylight (for a reasonable price anyway !), I ended up buying a 60" plasma a few months back now / 100hz / full hi-def etc etc..very happy with it and all... but.. now ! .....
I was looking through the junkmail i had piled up for the last week and noticed Dick Smiths have a sale on in Vic atm until the 29th of October. They have the Sanyo PDG-SU20E 2000Lumens DLP projector for $577 !!!!!!! . I thought "Oh well, at this price and for the specs i gotta try it !, and for 4000hrs roughly at that price im happy even if it cost me another 280 for a new globe 3000 to 4000hrs later, the projecter is cheap as anyway!". I gotta tell you I'm absolutely amazed with this projector, I managed to get it running by lunchtime and had all the curtains open, the room was very bright, and this thing still produced a pic just as good as my plasma imo , but way bigger ! . Im not saying it's replacing my plasma , obviously its more expensive to run a few hundred watt globe in a projector than a plasma for a few hrs. From now on the Plasma is just for normal TV viewing and the Projector will be for Main events and Movies . If your after a cheap projector with great results, then check it out !. I snapped this picture about 10 mins ago (is 1am here, so is dark , but i have the lounge room light on), I'll snap another pic tomorrow during the daylight with the curtains open for you all to see. Excuse the blury pic / my camera cant keep up with the fps, i should have paused the movie ! ..lol This pic size if being thown from about 5.5 meters away, it can throw up to 12meters and 300" screen size diagonal max. :thebirds:

It has +/-15 degrees vertical keystone correction, it can be floor/table or roof mounted too.

What are the resolution and contrast levels?
I bought my last projector online from the US - was about $4000 here. Cost me $1100 in the end including shipping and customs costs. Gotta love globalisation...

Yes it is HDTV compatible @ 480i/p, 576i/p, 720p and 1080i . It is a 4:3 screen size, and has the 4:3 and 16:9 option on the remote.
There is a few model numbers for this projector apparently / but all being exactly the same projector. Dicksmith sell it as PDG-SU20 , the box says DPG-SU20E i got it in, and Sanyo have it on their website as PDGDSU20 in the 'ultraportable' projectors catagory in the projector section. Check out the Sanyo website for full specs. I snapped another picture with absolute full daylight shining on the wall/picture (im not using a screen atm), and it's sunny as here atm too, very bright in here !. It looks a little lighter (pics dont do the justice realy) but still fully viewable and still more colour and move viewable than if i had this much sun shining on the screen of my plasma !. Anyway, another pic from Inderpendance day.

Heres a link to a review:
Link Gets a decent review, but I would personally want more resolution (its not 720p) and contrast along with other features - I bought a Sanyo Z5. However if you just want something basic you cant go wrong at that price.

The resolution and contrast is great (yes you can get higher), but you can't see any pixels unless your right up near the screen anyway, it's crystal clear at 1meter away or more and full of contrast, the blacks and whites are amazing too / no flywire effect at all. For $577 for a DLP projector you can't go wrong !. Oh..Btw everyone, I don't worth for Sanyo or Dicksmiths, just giving my thanks/credit where credit is due. Cheers.

I didn't end up buying it. I went in to Powehouse and saw it working, side by side with a decent Sony 720p projector. For the money, it rocks, but it didn't impress me overall.

It does handle the 300" pic @12meter throw range, i tried it, but you need to be at least 9.5 to 10 meters away or more from the screen for the resolution to still look sharp and crisp. Also at 300" it was good at night with lights on , but with full daylight it nearly wipes out the pic at 300" @12 meters throw distance.
