Ok guys cruised from Launceston to Hobart Yesterday, Noticed that slight humming noise when you know your pads are getting low when they start touching the lip of the rotor.... Thought sweet "will check into hobart first" and get the front pads done on the weekend.
No such luck have been trying to phone mechanics all day since 8am and have now done 100 + Kays (Thought I might keep going). Now brakes are graunching and shuddering metal on metal and NO ONE OPEN TO supply so i can fix them? According to Hobart Police "NO ONE" opens on the weekend. 4 Degrees and raining - Stuck in the hotel til Monday looks like. Have had to push my Ship back to Tuesday and am not sure who to see. Help would be appreciated? Jeremy. |

That's ridiculous, no one at all opening in Tasmania on a weekend for auto parts ? Not even and Autobarn or Bursons store ?

No workshop open to fit them..its four degrees and raining and im travelling. No workshop to fit the pads :(

Ring RACQ and when the patrolman comes out offer him a few bucks to do it as a backyard job. Most will take you up on the offer.

Sydney Mechanics are usually open Sat Morning and a few through the weekend?
Definitely has me confused... $300 for a mobile mechanic front pad change might kill the pocket... |

Stupid question but is there any chance you could fit them yourself. Im guessing youve got no tools but well youve got a scissor jack a wheelbrace in the car. Only need 2 spanners a clamp to push the piston back in and less than 1 hour of time. And well if the discs need machining due to damage, well that can wait.
Get some crappy el cheapo tools from supercheap.

Why don't you fit them yourself in the hotel car park? If you can remove a wheel, and handle a spanner and a screw driver to lever the piston back, it's a 10 minute job. You will be able to buy some pads from any of the the Auto rice stores. And the tools for that matter.
Most of the exhaust joints were open until lunch time, and they could have fitted them. I just spent 4 hours at a local speed shop (who happen to be open today, and tomorrow) who are tuning cars all weekend as there is an interstate tuner on deck for the weekend. Maybe, if you really can't do this job your self, they could whack them in. PM me for there details if you like. They are very busy tuning though -> seven cars to do this weekend...
