Default What other model engines can fit in my TC Cortina?

Having trouble finding an engine for my 3.3L TC XL (6cyl, 200) just wondering if anyone know if any other models or car engines will fit? I dont wanna put a 250 in it...

Crossflow or log head?

Falcon engines of the same era will fit. You just have to change the sump, oil pickup tube and redrill the block for the rear dipstick

Is a new engine really needed? It may be more cost effective to rebuild the one you already have, and then there are no engine-change rego issues/updates.

Curious as to why you dont want a 250. Easier to find and go like a shot cat in a corty.
^^^^ I agree. rebuild kits can be had cheap for these engines. Theres a place in Just Parts mag that advertises re ring kits for about $300

You can put in a motor from XW (maybe earlier) right through to an XF.

They can be log motors, cross flows and even V8's. It all depends how much trouble you want to go through

Please read the manual carefully, as the these manufacturers spent millions of dollars making sure it is perfect.....Now why are there so many problems with my car, when I follow the instructions to the letter?....Answer, majority rules round here

If it really needs a new engine and the old one cannot be repaired, I don't see what the problem with the 250cid six would be. They are the same engine as the 200, only the 250's cylinder bores are slightly bigger or something, so they are both identical in their external size. The benefit here is that there would be no need for any additional modifications, e.g. radiator hoses.

It shouldn't be too hard to find a Falcon engine from an XA-XB within Australia. So what you would do with a motor out of a Falcon is to put the old engine's sump and oil pickup on the new motor (as previously mentioned here) and drill into the allocated spot in the block for the dip stick (which is positioned further back).

The reason why I said XA-XB engines was because I know that they had a design modification for drilling a different dip stick location for being installed in Cortinas. I'm not sure about pre-XA log head blocks though.

Doesn't really matter anyway with the dip stick
just put a bend in the end of it and push it in the old Falcon location and it will only go in one way and that was to follow the sump down into the pan area. it will be less than 200ml out(full would be indicated just below the full mark) and it's still clear of moving parts.
Found this out after fitting an XB 250 into one of my old 200 Corties and only remembering to drill the hole after the engine was fitted, needless to say the drilling never happened. I did the same thing when I fitted a 250 crossflow to that same car, this time just didn't bother drilling the hole
