Default What to do? I Need an upgrade

Hey guys, I have an ba xr6 falcon which is my first sporty car. I knew I shouldn't get something to powerful. Didn't want to end up parked around a tree.
I have had it for awhile and in the soon I would like to upgrade.

I'm not sure if I should do up my xr6, or if I should sell it and buy a xr6 turbo or an xr8. And if I buy a new car what series should I get?

I have done of work on my xr6 and have became very attached to it.

I have thought about supercharging my xr6 and I would love to do that, but a turbo would be pretty sweet.

I do love the roar of the v8, my I6 just doesn't hit that note but does sound great.

I don't know what to do. I was just thinking some advice would be handy and may help me make up my mind

trade in?
sell private and buy private?
how much you got to spend?
what do you want? sporty or luxury?

go and test drive V8s and turbos so you can at least make your mind up in that department...then hunt for a car depending on the answers to the above Q's

Private sell and buy for sure. Car yards under buy over sell. Money isn't an option. If I wanted something that costs more ill just wait longer.
I'm not in a huge rush.
I have thought about test driving them but being only 23 I didn't see that going to well.

take a family member that is older than you perhaps?
if its private buy its a little harder to go around test driving cars i guess

unless you have some friends or family members that have xr8s or g6e's you can go for a drive in with them
if i was in the market for another car it would be another G6ET or an FPV

Take your BA XR6 in as a 'trade in' and dealers should let you test drive.

On paper, the XR6-Turbo wins hands down, but the XR8's sound awesome so you really have to drive both and factor in future mods, fuel consumption etc... I love the sound of a turbo which made my decision easier.

Supercharging your XR6 would be something different, but most likely more expensive. Plus the XR6-T and XR8 engines are designed for more power / force induction (different compression, stronger internals).

As to model, it all depends on your budget. Obviously the newer the better. If you're buying a manual, BA MKII has the 6 speed which is a huge upgrade. If auto, BF has the 6 Speed which again is a rather big improvement.
FG is a big jump in many ways, but this includes price. BF is usually $3-5K more than a BA/BAII. Just depends on your budget.
My budget would not have allowed the 18-19k for a tidy, BF manual with less than 90,000k's in a colour I liked, so I got a BA MKII.

An FPV would be sweet. But I don't think the budget goes that high haha. I know that's just going against what I said before but I don't make that much money.

I have just moved to Melbourne on my own and noone here has one (that I'm friends with) I will try and go in and test the new 8 and 6T but how are they compared to say the ba models?
I love the look of the ba, I think it's much better then the bf.

IMO, FG feels a lot more refined, nicer interior, definitely can feel that it is newer.
Using to to compare a BA XR6-T to a BA XR8 would be a bit hard. Considering that the only new Ford V8 is a Supercharged 5L, and BA/BF/Early-FG had a 5.4L N/A.

Also FG XR6-Turbo's have a smaller, faster spooling turbo. FG F6 has the same turbo as BA/BF (but a LOT more power).

I loved the BA look but got a BF for many reasons and now i think it looks great, its grown on me.

Have you factored in premium audio/climate control? I didnt at first but once i knew what it was i went for it, adds some price but looks so much nicer.
Given the option id probably trade my XR6t for an XR8 as i miss the sound so much.

BA MkI or II XR6T would be the recommendation from me.

The only thing I base this on is logical progression. You are young and plenty of time for an FG, or later model, but stepping up from an XR6 to a turbo version is not such a jump that you'll have trouble handling it.

During ownership you can make changes and improvements, over time, as money becomes available, and your experience behind the wheel increases.

The added bonus is that unless you drive it hard everywhere it will easier on the pocket to run and maintain the car as well.

The BA MkII XR6T I've just picked up was $8,999 and the dealer actually had a second one on the lot as well (though I think it was another grand or two). If you spend a week, or two, looking around online, and hitting the car yards within a reasonable distance from you, you'll find something you're happy with.

I've also had a BA that was just no good. Everything felt 'off', just not refined at all, little rattles here and there.

However this isn't all BA's. My current one feels extremely tight, not a single rattle, feels more solid than a lot of newer cars I've been in.

I'm sure there are cases in BF where it is the same.
Don't get me wrong, I would have bought a BF hands down if I could justify/afford the extra expense. I'm just saying to the OP that not all BA's are bad.

I haven't looked at the G6E I might have to have alook at them tonight. My ba is fine I will admit it has had a few small problems here and there but nothing I haven't been able to fix myself.

Go to a caryard and test drive a few vehicles that you would like and then make a decision. They are in the business of selling vehicles not knocking back people that want to test drive them.

I'm not going to buy then tests out how fast I can get around a corner. I'm not a great drive or even a good one but I have half a brain to know that I have easy into the car, get use to it. I'm not going to just flor it and start drifting! That's just asking to smash it and get hurt

I'm the opposite to most people here. I hate the FG and the gearbox. I may have had an off one when I had the rental (make that two), but they just didn't do it for me. Dodgy Chinese interior, dodgy A/C etc. I much prefer the B series and earlier.....
