Hi all,

i am a member of a few facebook 'stolen cars' groups. There seems to be a huge issue with VF SS and HSV models getting stolen at the moment, with the thieves seemingly covering up indicators with tape, smashing a window, re-programming ecu to use their key and driving away. All in probably under a minute.

Also heard several stories where people had air tag type trackers put on their cars by the thieves (from shopping centres or car parks etc) and then the cars stolen in the days or weeks ahead.

This is super concerning to me. So this brings me to my question here:

Is this a rampant problem with performance BA BF FG falcons? I don't hear about many being stolen.

What are people doing to prevent theft on our beloved falcons?

I have all the usual personally: Behind locked gate, 2 rollers doors, locked in shed with keys in safe, a tracker hidden in vehicle, usually disconnect a fuse or other plug, as well as over-insured with good agreed value, as well as buy back for the BA. Apart from maybe installing a bollard behind them, are people doing anything extra to the cars themselves to prevent these zombies attacking?

One thing about Facebook is a lot of BS. That is 100% guaranteed.

Currently the 2 most popular way to steal a car and it doesn't matter what car it is.

First, they steal with the keys, you would be surprised how many people actually leave the front door open, thieves can walk straight into the house find the keys and take off with the car. Most thieves want the soft target and the quickest way possible with the least sound.

Second is towing the car. With the use of Go jacks the car can be stolen quickly and silently and put onto a back of a trailer or tow truck in no time.

I dont doubt that people put tags in cars or follow cars, or use a laptop to steal a car. But you will probably find most of these stories are friends of friends.

As i said the best way to stop a thief is to lock your house, have basic security measures such sensors lights.

Totally incorrect. VFs are walking constantly as it takes about a minute to canbus inject them , program a universal fob and drive off.

We are on Ford Forums though not Holden. Commodores will continue to be the car of choice to steal because they are simply more popular. BA/BF FG are still relatively hard to steal without a key, so I wouldn’t worry about it. If someone wants your car because it’s special, they will get it.

As above, if it’s not a “special” car it’s more about opportunity and they’ll steal your keys and drive away. I don’t stress too much about my special cars being stolen, I insure them for what they are worth and have a car parked in front of them that is difficult to move for added security. Keys in a safe that’s bolted to the slab.

12 years ago I left my VY Clubsport parked on the Great Ocean Road with the keys in it for two days and didn’t realise until we got back to the car, luck comes into it as well.

Every stolen vehicle we have had to deal with are stolen with the keys in a home invasion, then they use the car to do other houses, handbags and wallets is what they are really after and I would say with the amount of stolen cars we get each month, most people are really relaxed in how they protect their property and have only themselves to blame, its rampant we all know about it but seem to put keys on a desk with our wallets, leave windows ajar for air circulation or doors unlocked for ease of use.

But you have to thank these people who are so relaxed with security, as for us that lock doors, windows, put keys and wallets away just makes the scum move to the next easy target

The cars they take with go jacks and tow trucks are never seen again and no amount of security would stop them, if they want it its gone.

Was reminded of this thread, today. A nice orange VF Redline in a car park, driver’s window down far enough that you could get an arm in there.

I've got a flipper zero with custom firmware - it can monitor for radio signals then save and retransmit, its pretty much a radio frequency testing tool.

Tested it out on my Caprice, works but only for opening the car, and will work once because of 'rolling codes' where it needs a different code on the next transmission of door open signal. It listens for radio signals then can capture and re-transmit that frequency, didn't want to try it on my Fiesta in case I immobilised my own car

Not sure how they're doing it to VE/VF, if they're using Flipper Zero or some other method, one assumes if they had it sorted in 1997 for rolling codes, they would for a VE/VF decades later.
