Default speakers in auIII

hi there, just bought a falcon forte 2002 auIII and was wondering the specs and size of the standard speakers front and rear doors? if anyone can help that would be great.

specs i not sure of but i am pretty sure they r 5inch by 7inch front and back i replaced mine with Boston splits in the front and Boston Co ax's in the parcel shelf i think there are a few other brands that also make 5*7inch speakers
makes instalation alot easier and if you sell the car you can just swap them over as you have not cut any extra holes and the standard speaker grills fit back into place as original

just replaced all of my speakers with Kicker ES68, they are a 6x8 which fits in the 5x7 whole - got them on sale at JB for $95 each pair. worst thing was trying to remove power window button - quite tricky when you don't know how, rest is a cinch.

i fitted 6"5 inch MB Quart splits to my ute, with reasonable ease.... just had to make a spacer out of MDF. quite simple really and they sound pretty decent ;)

This is a good alternative, and is what I did.
The main reason for doing this is it opens up a million and one different speakers to choose from rather than the limited choice for oval speakers.

Mate, it was dead easy just had to make up some flat male ends to plug into the standard speaker cable plugs, and the speakers bolt straight in. when you remove the power mirror button you have to lift up the edge that would normally point to the rear of the car, angle that edge up and pull it out on the agle, backwards along the line of the door. - Very hard to explain but I took mine off the wrong way and nearly lost the 3 small ball bearings in the switch.

The sound is noticebly better quality with a hint of more bass and and the treble is a lot clearer. the next thing is the head unit which I have not decided to swap, as I can't justify spending another $300 to make my steering wheel controls work with an aftermarket head unit.

My G/F offered me her custom box/sub/and amp yesterday which is very tempting but will mean going all or nothing.

Good Luck

has it got 4 holes two on each side of the head unit?
if so just make up some lengths of steel out of a coat hanger bout 6inchs long and poke them into the holes and it releases the unit from the dash then pull it towards you and bobs your aunty lol

Stop when you hear the click. If you push to far you may damage the release mechanism and have bigger problems getting it out.

yeah i thought the same but at least now there are a few brands etc to choose from in the 5*7 size so you dont have to go cutting holes and stuff the Bostons i have are pretty good but i not sure if they make them anymore Alpine and JVC are a couple of options i can also think of off the top of my head

If you have not heard DLS speakers try and find a set to hear. I love them and come in 5x7.
