Best CD-R for AU?

Hi Guys -
AUIII, standard ford single cd headunit. Sometimes I have a lot of problems with it spitting out some burnt cd-r's, sometimes it will play them, however it will always play a proper cd.

What experiences have people had with various brands of cd-r and what which brand/model would be most highly recommended/compatible?

if you use cheap and nasty cd-r's your asking for trouble. I only use TDK, Maxell or Sony and there has never been a problem for me.

I've had trouble with TDK CDs. Also proper CDs. That's why I'm going aftermarket HU and possibly more speakers. If they'll fit where I want them to go.

If I recall, using the nicer Imation Flouro CD's, and burning it at Disc at Once/96, made it work 9/10. Sometimes it would still spit it out, but usually it would play it.

Granted though, it did start to happen more frequently, which is why I upgraded to an Alpine 9831.

I find Imation CD-R's work the best in our AU 6 stacker. Never had a problem with them.

Never had a problem with any burnt cd's in the stock 6 stack indash unit.

No matter what type of CDR's I use, my AUII head unit will still spit them out every now and then... Sony CDR's seem to work the best though.

Usually, if a CD player sometimes has problems playing burnt CDs, the fix is to burn them at a slower speed - instead of 40x, try burning them much slower, say 4x if you can get your burner to burn them that slowly.

Try that and see it it makes any difference.

VERBATUM.... TDK are just crap, bought 100 of them for $50 and only 20 were even able to be burned.

Verabatum are the disk specialist and burn everytime.

I played burnt cds all the time in both of my AUs and never had a problem.

Have you been putting printed labels on them? Some times if you don't put them on properly they can lift and jam the cd.

I mainly used Imation cds

my AUII never has spat out any cd, burnt or not. I don't think this is normal?

Any Cd's even cd's i have bought my cd player spits them back out at me. I have tried TDK, SONY, VERBATIUM and others with no luck. So when i get a cd to work i leave it in there for weeks; and that really sux.

Good topic guys,

My CD player (Premium sound option) will spit a burnt cd every so often as well as play tracks but intermitently skip during tracks, what i do is pause and unpause and that usually works.

But yes, when i play originals it plays fine and no drama's. I'm having trouble with TDK's as well.

Ok so far we have Sony CD's as the "better" ones of the CD-R's brands out there. Maybe using Sony CD's and burning them slower rate will make them work better in our cd units.

I can say our cd units are definitly not faulty as they play the originals perfect.

Maybe we should look at what programs people are using to burn their cds.

I use Easy CD creator 5 Platinum and have no troubles. Though I have burnt a few cds for friends who have had a bit of trouble with them. One has the last model Laser and the other a 200SX, but I doubt that would have anything to do with it.

As the Maddestman said,
The slower you burn the cd the easier it will be for the laser to read the data on the disc.
It's all well and good being able to burn 100's of songs in a few minutes with high speed burners but they'll more than likely be spat out from time to time.
Burn at the slowest speed possible on your cd burner and you will notice improvements.

I have a problem with Verbatim discs spitting out or pausing for no reason. Switched to TDK and have never had a problem and I use Sonic to burn my discs.

Im using a ful version of nero at 4x using a mitsibushi burner with hp cds and im having heaps of problems, do people find that not filling up the cd completely helps?

if you're 'overburning' (adding more then 650mb or 74 minutes) then you could very well experience problems. Keep it to about 70 minutes or so, and see if that helps.

Well having only used Verbatim and Strathfield branded CD-R in my car before, I found Verbatim to read half the time, Strathfield lucky to read 1 in 5-10...

I've compiled another CD-R list for the first time in ages, and i'm currently in the process of burning it at 4x as suggested (would have done it at 1x but nero is only letting me go as low as 4x) on Verbatim media... shall see how it goes and how often it reads...

If it's any clue, they have a much better chance of playing whilst the engine is on. If the engine is off, CD's still play, but CD-R's seem to have buckleys of playing.

Yup, Verbatim burnt at 4x, reads much better. Out of the long use it's got this weekend, it only failed once which an eject and put back in fixed

Some of you guys that are having trouble should also try putting a cd cleaner through your headunit. sometimes it can be a little bit dirty and that is why it is having trouble reading your discs. burning your discs slower will help but cleaning the unit may fix it totally. make sure when you run it through though that you put it through a couple of times.
