extractors will make the sound a bit deeper. You should be able to get a set of Pacemaker 4480 for around $500-600, or 4499 for around $450. prices are a guide only. JMM also does a race series/street fighter set of extractors for the VCT that go well - around the same price I think. Click on the Jim Mock Motorsport link in the sponsors ads at the top of the page, and browse for their prices (I think you have to add fitting).
If you just want noise, then remove the rear resonator (would be less than $100 to do this).

i have the rear resonator removed on my AU1, 2 1/2 inch cat back, pace headers and a cat mod, sounds great but if u dont like groaning inside the car dont remove the back box, its louder inside the car but not so much outside and the extractors make it sound louder at lower revs but not so much at high revs, hope it helps with ur decision

Ok so if i just get a 2.5 inch exhaust from the cat back will that sound better then removing the rear resonator? What does the 2.5 inch exhaust from the cat back do anyway? And how much will it cost for the 2.5 inch exhaust from the cat back not fitted? Thanks Matt! Cheers Simon |

FTG Auto Salvage quoted me roughly $250 for a TS50 2.5 from the cat back! Is that any good? And would the TS50 one sound any good? Cheers Simon |

Best bet is to take it to someone recomended ( by people you trust ) in your area ( you can check out their work before hand ) tell them what your after, then save the cash to have it done properly. No point paying out cash to have a droneing sound comming from your car, if you go through someone reputable they will make sure it stays legal ( decibel levels ) and they will usually mod it to keep you happy.
Good Luck

lol ... if u want a louder car just drill small holes in your muffler ...lmao , or even better - take the muffler/mufflers off and burn a bit of the guts out of them with a brass welding torth fame ) - none of these mehods recomended , but they do work ! ..lol - dont know how they will effect your back pressures though ... very cheap easy mod for the adverage scumbag who doesn't want to spend any $$ ..lmao

VCT will sound different to the HP at high revs. They are not a deep burbly engine, they scream like a banshee actually. I've had mine accused of being turbo before due to the sound of it.. must be a VCT trait I guess as I'm not the only one. I wish.

Yeah i agree casper , the vct does scream like a banshee at high revs (sounds nice for a 6 , i like it ), only thing i can put it down to maybe is - it must have something to do with the vct keeping the firing of the cylinders better timed at higher revs / keeping the firing spot on according to the stroke rate ???????.
Darn smooth sounding/running engines no matter what the rev range, thats for sure . |

Its probably more to do with the VCT changing the cam making the exhaust slightly restricted, thus making a different sound. The cam movement has a "price to pay", in this case its in the exhaust.. also explains why the VCT is so touchy with what headers you use on it.

or vice versa should i say - the engine advancing the cam to suit the loss of distance of spark in the dizzy ( even with the vacume it still aint spot on in a normal engine ) .

ah yeah thats makes sence too , i can see what u mean how it would effect the timing of the opening and closing of the valves compared to pistons positions and firing time too .. hmmm

yep i got ya ;) - gee that would be darn hard to come up with a perfect efficient exhaust system for ! - sounds like everything has to be spot on matched to each other .... i think i will do some serious research into this be4 i go blowing any $$ on mods ... thanks again .
oh as i said earlier - excuse my bit of stupidity too ! ) ..lol - as u know allready alot of the 'old school' motors still work in the same principal and alot of the same rules still apply when looking for power/performance/results etc etc .. Its just these few new little bits of electronic gizmo's im learning about ... First time i looked at one of these newer engines i was like "WTF .. i aint toutchin this ! " - but after reading about them a bit i see the good old engine hasn't really changed much at all , just looks a bit different with a few things replaced with electronics now instead ..... thanks for all the help so far anyways - all u guys ;) , cheers . |
