Hey all,
what are the symptoms for a dead oxygen sensor.. i pulled mine out and i found that it wasnt as black as i had suspected but it had a hairline crack in it its a bit of a pricey object so i just wanna make sure its stuffed before i replace it Thanks, Brad.

If there's no noticeable differences when you take it out and drive the eb, i imagine it would indicate it's cactus. I didn't think they were that expensive. How much do they want for a new one?

make sure u go for a good brand of o2 sensor eg it payes to get a denso, or a ford one, its just one of those thing that can make a world of difference.

i will do.. i was told the repco ones are NGK's as oposed to ford Bosch equivilent... not sure what the differences are if there is any.. ill probably go with the cheapest

ACA Make reasonably priced oxygen sensors, good quaility too...Has your car been going through more juice than it normally would?

ye it sure has! its been idling all over the place.. surging when its cold.. and its really rich at idle causing it to shoot alot of black stuff outta the exhaust

If it's cracked it probably cactus or it's done over 100000 klms it's also probably cactus, But Test Don't Guess, otherwise you could be forking out over $100 without fixing your problem.

if your car spends more petrol and you change the o2 sensor but its still has the same problem what wpould be next to change map sensor?

Sounds like the oxy sensor is gone but sheesh $100+ for one is a bit rich. I got my NGK one from bursons for $84 3 months ago and from what i've herd they are the better ones, i'm happy with mine.

well i just replaced the oxy sensor.. OMG!! for a 260,000k motor its never idled so good in its life.. so smooth its drives way nicer... doesnt surge

I found the most positive way to test an o2 is, if you have a friend or friendly neighbour who is running the same o2 is to put theres in, that will let you know straight away I done a search and was taken back as to how many cars an o2 fits, if its 2wire it fits 3wire fits, oh, ask them first how their car is running you do not want to put a dud in.

You can test an o2 sensor with a digital volt meter
You should be able to buy one for under $20 The range of an O2 sensor is 0 to 1 volt As the car is running the voltage should switch above & below .5 volts rapidly If the voltage stays around 0 all the time then the sensor is no good Below .5 volts indicates lean & above is rich |

thanks, will check it again on the weekend, didnt have access to a meter today, i swapped over my sensor out of my EA and it didnt help with my problems with the EF:
