Default Windscreen - Stone Chips

Who has had stone chips in the windscreen and have been completely satifisfied by the repair job that the repairer did? Also what windscreen repairer did you use, how much did it cost and was the area that was repaired at all visible afterwards?

Thanks,
Dave

With a Falcon you can get a new screen installed for less than $200 and fixing a stone chip is not cheap, is noticeable and sometimes affects the wipers.

when you get chips fixed in your windscreen, there will allways be a mark there, and at 40-60$ per chip, its cheaper to get a new windscreen!

Can you get done for a RW if you have the smallest stone chip in your windscreen?

RWC and chips.
In Qld, depends where the chip is, and who does the RWC.

i believe Vic, from memory is harsh on any screen defect, even peppering. Never seen them check for peppering in Qld.

ive had two repaired screens, one was a shocker, the whole passenger side after polishing distorted vision out that side. Im serious, it was like putting on thick glasses when you dont need glasses. Somehow that passed RWC, caryards lol.

the other I had done, was for a single crack, about 10 cm, drivers side, but down very low on the screen, couldnt notice it really. $60, I was happy. If it was directly in my vision though, I wouldnt bother, Id just replace it.

Thanks for your replies guys. The chip isnt in my line of sight as a driver because its on the passengers side and is higher up than where the wiper blades swipe so there shouldnt be any problems with fouling even if it is a bit of a rough job on the repair. Wasnt too sure about getting the whole windscreen replaced as it is just 1 chip and I have heard horror stories about windscreens not being sealed up properly again and getting leaks and highway whistling noises. I was thinking of using Novis as i've heard a few good things about them. Can anyone else comment on them?

Get it filled though, it will crack and spread. When they fill, they drill the ends of the cracks to stop it spreading. I think it depends on whether its in both surfaces. If its just the outside surface, then they can usually repair it, and if its not full of dirt and moisture.

The guy I got wasnt Novus just some small business, did excellent work though.

I got a stone chip fixed in mine recently, cost me $40 from just a local company and they came out to my house to do it. The only reason that you'll sometimes get a mark after it's been fixed is if dirt/moisture have gotten in to the crack/chip. That didn't happen to mine as I had some of those temporary stickers that windscreen places have to cover it until it gets fixed, came up as good as new.
