Default Hoax Ebay email doing the rounds

Hi all,

I received this email from <aw-confirm@ebay.com> yesterday:

Dear Customer ,
For the User Agreement, Section 9, we may immediately issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate your membership and refuse to provide our services to you if we believe that your actions may cause financial loss or legal liability for you, our users or us. We may also take these actions if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us.

We regret to inform you that your eBay account could be suspended if you don't re-update your account information. To resolve this problems please use the link below and re-enter your account information. If your problems could not be resolved your account will be suspended for a period of 24 hours, after this period your account will be terminated. .
Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new account. Please note that this suspension does not relieve you of your agreed-upon obligation to pay any fees you may owe to eBay.

To update your record please click here: <link>

....................................

DO NOT click on the link provided if you receive this email! I didn't, but judging from the url underneath that link, it sounds like a porn site ("inputgirls.com").

The email looks like a genuine Ebay email.

Cheers,

-Dave-

I have contacted eBay before about the one you received, Ghia, as they actually do follow them up. The VIP thing to remember is that they would never ask you for this information. Also, if you notice, they're using the US ebay, which I am not a member of. I hope not too many ppl fall for these.

I got this one TWICE in as many days:

Your bank has contacted us regarding some suspicious activity, including unauthorized charges of your credit card via the eBay system. We have reasons to believe that you changed your registration information or that someone else has unauthorized access to your eBay account. Please use the link below to sign in to eBay, check and if necessary update your information we have on file. Once you have updated your account records your session will not be interrupted and will continue as normal. Failure to update will result in cancellation of service, Terms of Service (TOS) violations or future billing problems.

To update your record please click here:
It is highly recommended that you right click on the link and select "Open in new window" option as some mail clients will not allow you to proceed!

Yes, that's something else I forgot to point out:

1) I signed up thru ebay.com.au
2) The email address I received this through wasn't the one I signed up to ebay.com.au with! <-- instant detection of hoax with this one ;)

Yep, hopefully others on here read this thread Bindi so that they don't accidentally click the link without thinking...

im yet to recieve any hoax emails of the sort.
im gonna take a guess and say that the people that do get these hoax emails have email addys from yahoo, msn or something similar.
i use a proper email address through outlook express so thats why im thinking its only people that dont have a 'proper' email addy that get these.
would be interesting to know for sure.

I get heaps of those, which is surprising since I'm not even a member of Ebay.

I also find a lot of similar ones from Paypal, I usually foward the email to in the case of paypal spoof@paypal.com which is their fraud dept and I also make a point on the fowarded email to cc it to the sender so they know they are about to be found out. If you do this use full headers that gives ebay/paypal the backtrack of how the email arrived to you.
