My neighbour has an AUII fairmont wagon and today his oil pressure dropped and the light came on. That was at idle and since then the light stays off (at idle) but he notices the oil pressure is still low. He says even at speed the pressure is not what it used to be before this. Has plenty of oil on the dip stick. Any Ideas as to what is going on??

hi olfella,
when my car was new i had similar problems and had ford investigate it, after thorough oil pressure testing they said it wasn't a mechanical problem,instead they informed me that it was an earthing problem that was causing the electronic gauge to be erratic and added an extra earth wire. problem solved have never had another problem since. hope this helps. |

in my AU1 fairlane 6 cyl
sometimes while sitting idling (say at lights or in a carpark or on the side of the road after driving) the oil pressure slowly creeps down and then starts beeping at me.. if i rev it it goes back up and the light turns off.. etc etc.. its as tho the guage sorta goes out of calibration .. .. so it creeps down and if i turn off then restart the car it goes to where its suposed to be.. where did the extra earth wire get put dxr88u? |

Run a wire from the chassis, or negative terminal on the battery to the oil pressure sender itself..
i helped my mate do this, what we ended up doing is unscrewing the sender unit, running a big O- clip (not sure on the correct name, but its a big 0 with a bit on the end to crimp wire into it) over the sendor and screwing it back in, with the earthed out wire crimped to it, seemed to solve his problem.. sorry if it dosnet make sence.. |

lol its under the inlet manifold screwed into the block.. so if your facing the car with the bonnet open it will be on the right side of the engine..
you have to get it from underneith the car... you'll know when you see it.. sticks about 2-3inchs out of the block with a wire coming off it... |

awww i hate getting under the cars man the hoist would be the best bet..
easy, have the job done in under 30mins.. just dont stand under the sender unit when you pull it out LOL and dont look up if you are........ if the engine is gonna be warm when your screwing the sender unit in, dont over tighten it.. remember theres oil on the thread so it will screw in further than what it feels anyway.. |

I was under the ute for 4 hours yesterday out in the sun (very tanned legs now).
Damn oil pressure switch on the side of the bock decided to p155 oil out everywhere didn't it. bloody pain to remove as well ... and put bac in ... a deep socket is needed (factory is 25mm ... replacement for Ford is 24mm ... go figure). oh ... the surprise for the day ... the switch was only $10 from Ford ... i nearly fell over in shock at how cheap it was). I would have used the hoist at Cresent Motorsport .. but they were all in use.

also for a better idea .. it's sits just above the engine mount ... right near the coil ... all sorts of extensions are needed ... also deep sockets as well (due to the connector on the end of the sender/switch).
There are 2 types of senders ... there's the high and low series (low series is just for the dummy light ... the high series is for the oil pressure gauge).
