Hi all, wanted to ask a Cortina-newbie question.
When did Cortina's change over to the crossflow motor? (I seem to recall the early MK2's were 1500 pre-corssflow) Was there ever a crossflow 1500cc motor, or only 1600cc? What did the GTs come with engine-wise, across which years ? Thanks in advance |

I just had a flick through some old sales brochures.
In 1967 the cortina has the 1300cc & 1500cc pre-crossflow & in 1968 cortina went to the 1300cc & 1600cc crossflow. The only 1500cc crossflow was the Lotus motor, that used the 1500cc pre crossflow block & bumped the capacity up to 1558cc & added the Lotus twincam crossflow head. The GT had a little work done to the motor to get a bit more power. The most noticable thing was the dual barrel downdraft webber carby. In 1967 it had the 1500cc pre-crossflow & all the other years had the 1600cc crossflow . |
