Hi guys,
Went out looking for some bargins today - I thought SCA would have their normal 20% off boxing day sale - but not this year - they had a catalogue sale on, but most of the stuff in the store was still full price. Went down the road to Repco, and scored a heap of massive markdown stuff.... Seems the days of getting crap, cheap tools from SCA might be coming to an end... its now crap, average price tools...

Yea that's how I understand it, last year I left the wife and kids on holidays and returned home for work stoping by SCA for service kits, tools etc

The only thing I now buy from Supercheap is Meguires tyre spray, and even now it is cheaper elsewhere. It's now just a auto supermarket full of rubbish and home brands. Autobarn is much better.

The catalogue sale ends on new years day but the 20% off sale is coming in early Jan. A lot of the major retailers like Harvey Norman aren't having a storewide sale, just catalogue and SuperCheap did this last year too. The lead-up to Christmas sale had some huge bargains in it, you should have gone in then

Eg: I got 8l of nulon oil, oil air & fuel filter, 4 disc Rotors (RDA) and bendex pads for my wife's territory last week at Auto Parts World Richmond NSW for $460. The rotors and pads were over $500 at SCA I got SoCal short shocks from Armadale auto parts WA for less than $100 delivered, you cans do them for that on eBay. We need to support our local parts stores or they'll disappear like real hardware stores and prices will go up

New 500CA battery in stock at Battery Power, $175. Same battery in stock at two SCA's, $250. They cater to people who know Sweet FA about cars.

You need to know the prices of things before you go. I often buy items there on sale but just laugh at other prices.
They are sneaky but, they have a good oil special but will only have 2 on the shelf whereas on their ad the guy pushes out a whole shelf. |

BCF are the same group as supercheap, and 2 weeks ago I bought a new marine battery from BCF for quite a bit less than it was at SCA. The C in SCA is a misnomer.

I used to work at SCA, and it is a horrible place to work. They have a **** management, and even worse PR. Their 'tools' are **** quality made in China (everything is though), their team doesn't know what they are talking about and their sales are ****. Haven't set foot in an SCA shop for 8 months
I go to Autobarn and Repco now

At least at Autobahn the workers seem to know their stuff generally, at SCA they don't know jack about anything.

Having recently visited many auto parts stores to buy a ring gap grinding tool i can say i wouldnt bother with any of them unless i was buying polish or something equally as useful.
The Repco store i went to i had to even explain to the sales guy what a ring was. The only store i have found worth its weight was the Outlaw Speed shop for advice and parts. Repco only gets a look in coz i get RAA discount.

Walkers Auto One FTW
Always have parts i need, when i need them. Radiator hoses, fan belts, bushes, & mounts there on the shelf,at damn good prices. Bottom Radiator Hose went a few weeks ago. SCA $52 & 3 day wait. WAO 16.75 on the shelf. SCA has the occasional good bargain which i do take advantage of. But walkers genuinely also know what they are talking about. cant go past em.

Usually works. Other kids couldnt care less how many I buy... |

i went into my local supercheap about a month ago to get a pcv for the ba
and do you think they even new what is was? nop the bloke asked me is it a brand? so i pretty much just turned around and walked out, went to repco and they said it would cost me a further $20 ontop of the $40 to get it in from toowoomba, then upon driving home i notiiced a local auto store that i never new we had turns out we have 2 and got it for $36 and by the catalog specials do you guys mean the upto 50% off sale? i got a sca pressure washer for $250 down from $500 seems to go good so far 1900psi 2.6hp unleaded, see out its goes only time will tell but really how different are they from a cheap lawn mower? edit: i got $100 voucher for christmas so i only payed $150 for it otherwise probably wouldnt have got one

I would watch out with that. No word of a lie, so had quite literally 98% of those come back broken. I don't know if it was just a bad batch or what, but the petrol ones were dodgy

Yeah any auto part I get from either walkers or auto barn and sometimes repo. I only buy oil, polishes or filters and trailer bits from supercrap. AUDI is my new tool store now. LOL

Sounds just like what I always thought SCA was - a store that is centered around seat covers and car cleaning products. Not mechanical parts for the mechanically minded like Repco, Bursons, etc.

Mmmm well being a full time Autobarner I'm probably qualified to respond.
Can only comment on our store but I reckon we're pretty good, I generally handle spares and if its a Falcon it'll be thrown my way. Don't mind the tricky queries and its good when you can solve a problem easily. The local SCA used to be fantastic but from what we hear from our customers they aren't really interested in anything anymore, you buy from there great, if not they wont try to convince you. Gotta remember that at the end of the day we're just another retail store like any other, auto parts stores are no different. Anybody that works selling anything should know their product well enough to answer your queries and it is ok to say 'I don't know' as long as it is followed by 'but I'll find out'.

In Sunbury there is a Bursons and an SCA right next to each other, every time I go down to get stuff its usually on a Saturday, Bursons is always closed on weekends.
Theres an Autobarn, but its a real pain in the *** to get to, and there is a real small Repco which has been there for 25 years apparently which I just found a few months ago, got my Falcon power steering hose from there. So SCA wins me as a customer every time, mainly just filters/fuses/oil is what I buy. If I need more serious stuff like tools, www.transquip.com.au in WA is who I buy everything from. Auto electrical stuff, Ashdown Ingrams in Tullamarine do us a good deal as I get our company prices on cash sales. One time had to do some diagnostics on the old mans car in their car park so I bought some tools and did it all there haha. |

Nearest Autobarn is 40 minutes which is a pain as I'm not a fan of heading down Macquarie Pass on my days off. SCA are 20 mins away in Mittagong but so is Repco so I go there and get my NRMA discount. If Autobarn were up here,I'd be there more often than I'm at home !

I usually go to repco as I get trade there and I know there is one person there who knows what he is doing. But even so, I work for Ford Parts so I get genuine stuff for stupid cheap anyway.

I have 3 'local' SCA stores, only 1 of them will get my business, because they have decent staff. SCA is fine for consumables, like oil, filters and some garage stuff like jacks and ramps.
Local Repco is much better for spare parts, guys actually know cars and understand what you want. Autobarn stores are not too bad, but I visit them the least.

I've not been a fan of SCA for a while now, I generally go to autobarn or repco, the autobarn macgregor has an older guy who knows his fords, and the guy who owns autobarn capalaba store is good, there is also Lees spare parts at underwood who is good for brisbane people.
