Have just seen the news for the world record for the most amount of cars doing a burnout at one time has been broken, 69 cars doing a burnout at the same time.
This is bad for all car enthusiasts, the media will always use stunts like this to label every car enthusiast as a hoon. Whoever runs Summernats now, are very short sited in doing something like this. What does everyone think about this. I like nothing more then a high horse power engine, but even a 4 pots these days can do a good burnout, so I don't think they are proving anything! |

Summernats has been around for a long time & its not new news that people do burnouts at summernats. So far the media has been positive about summernats & interviewed the police on the possitive changes that have been made in the last few years.
Like you said I hope they dont use this as a way of making it look bad (considering it was done legally & under controlled conditions), but I wouldnt be surprised if they did. |

Why is doing a burnout a bad thing. That is what Sumernats is all about. Everything I seen so far is positive. IMO it is actually good, because it is hsowing support for legal events. Not out on the street.

"Man Cards"??? WTF? especially coming from someone called "pottery beige"??
Burnouts can be done on anything with tyres, my GF has done one on a freakin moped! Point is.... It doesn't encourage young car enthusiasts to aspire to a well thought out and loved machine of their dreams? What it encourages is, go buy a piece of crap car, whack a decent engine in it, spend hundreds on tyres, then trash them for no other reason than to create smoke? I can rub two sticks together and do that? Should we not be encouraging our young to appreciate cars and what they afford us? I would rather see young men and women spending money on restoring or maintaining quality cars, rather than buying tyres. How many young blokes will be out doing burnouts tonight? And who's street will it be in? Yours, mine, maybe a street where children play....... |

1 thing which I am guessing here, is you have never been to an event like this, otherwise you would understand the passion some go to. |

Summernats is for bogans. Burnouts are for bogans.
Do what you want with your car, couldn't give a stuff. But I'll be doing what I want with mine and it's nothing like any of that.

1st- Assumptions are like A'holes, everyone's got one, as you apparently do.
Your use of the term "built cars" is an affront to any genuine car restoration enthusiast! Please refrain from any further use of said term, until such a time as you can actually validate any proof of ever restoring or building a car from scratch! 2nd- I did not complain about it "being an event". I merely extended my opinion that the "event is a pointless waste of time and money" that does nothing more than re-enforce the bad rep that genuine street car enthusiastic have had to endure for years, thanks to those that are unable or unwilling to spend money on making their car "the best it can be", preferring to waste money on tyres with the SOLE PURPOSE of creating smoke? 3rd- Your comment "I would rather see a ****** box with a big V8 doing a burnout than a fully restored car that cost $100000 to restore sit in the garage doing nothing" tell's me a lot about you.... You obviously have the funds to purchase the crap tyres you require to do your "much loved burnouts" but not the tenacity, funds, or commitment to your preferred brand of car to bring a classic back from deaths door? Ford fan? I think not? In conclusion, I have been to many Summernats(6) and other race meetings. |

Poor old VN wagon. Don't mind seeing a burnout but don't like seeing Aussie cars flogged.

I opened this expecting a link to the video, not someone having a sissy whinge...
It's in a a controlled environment which is why these events are so important.
