Default ECU Bracket Removal?

Hey people.

Does anyone know an easy way of removing the ecu bracket?

It appears to be pop-riveted in place. I tried gently drilling it out, but not having a lot of success.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Drilling it out is how you do it.

It's an actual screw that look's like a pop rivet, centre punch it anti clock wise and it will unscreew.

And you can buy a new one from ford , as soon as it gets tight the head will break of.

Cheers Mick.

Ok. Well I got the ecu out without too many drama's, but I now have a problem.

While trying to clean the J3 port on the ecu and put some solder onto the pins (as per chiptorque instructions) I have now preety much farked my ecu.

One of the pins on the J3 connector came off while removing some solder with braid, and now I have no idea whether it will work without one of the pins, or whether i can reattach it somehow?

It would appear that the pins on both sides of the J3 join to the same spot. So I'm wondering whether a connection will still work with only a pin on one side of the board and not the other?

Sorry if this post doesn't seem to make much sense, but i'm so cranky with myself right now I can't even think straight.

Heres a guide that shows the procedure. I lost one of the pins on one side of the board. 3rd one from the left

Yes... it will cause problems not having that pin... as either side of the board is treated as seperate circuits...

can you take a picture of the effected area? Wish i lived near by... i'd soon find a replacement pin on something i have laying around...

I got the pin, no problems there. Its just not attached anymore.

I thought it was alright, cause the cable only has 16 wires attached to a plug with 32 connections. 16 on each side.

But i suppose somehow i could reattach the pin?

I don't think i can. The wire it connects to, is thin as a hair, and appears to be broken off a little bit away from where the pin sits.

You might be able to take a little of the green coating off and re-trace a line using a thin strand of wire...

Dont stress mate, most of the pins arnt used and only on one side anyway. If it was that is used, then we'll still sort something out there mate, now dont go pluggin in my adapter with that solder still on there, as it'll bend the pins.

Cheers mate, Makes me feel better now lol. I had a good look at it last night with a magnifying glass. It appears that the pin that came out isnt even connected to anything. I'm preety sure anyway, SO I finished cleaning it up, and now its spotless and ready to go.
