Perhaps cheapest place to drive, doesn't have anything to do with the best. Best is gotta be Tassy, followed closely by Adelaide (Miles of twisty blacktop minutes from the CBD), from an enthusiast standpoint at least.

Perth - The only capital city you can drive from one side to the other through the CBD in Friday afternoon peak hour and do it in a half an hour.

If Perth is the best place Id hate to see the rest of the country. Im constantly dodging idiots, texters, p platers and generally ignorant drivers. I do love Perth though.

I bit of a shallow article but if they mean Perth is the best place to drive because of the road infrastructure, then I agree. No where in Australia can you get a round so easily using the freeway system right through the CBD and beyond (maybe Canberra). Second would be Melbourne but the penalty is the toll system along with the higher volume of traffic.

No way is perth the 'best' city to drive in, I moved from bunbury to perth and could not believe all the idiots that drive around perth. I prefered driving in brisbane over Perth

All I know is driving around the metro area on a Saturday is a headache.

I just got back from Sydney on the weekend and I could not believe the traffic. I have never seen so many cars since goign to london and how many people look for excuses to honk their horns. If a car is at the front of the lights here in Perth it will take a few seconds for the first horn to beep. over there every car in the que honks as soon as it turns green, I could not believe it.
And I applaud our government for not introducing Tolls, be interesting to compare car and licence registration costs between WA & NSW tho.
Our road designers seem to screw up bottle neck positions I have found.

hhmmm. while we do have some very good roads, particularly n the newer suburbs, and driving nis relatively cheap, we have some truly awful drivers. no manners at all, no idea. and lately the city has become a complete nightmare. barrack st goes to pot after 9am and stays that way all day.

my 2 cents. The best driving capital in Australia is 100% not Brisbane or Sydney.

Best place to drive in Australia?....maybe but one thing really gets me and that is the morons (trying to keep it civil here) who insist on driving at 15-20kph below the speed limit IN THE RIGHT BLOODY LANE!!!!

And you can't get around them either, it's like people's IQ have suddenly dropped to 50 or something!!

Perth has some very nice driving roads and they allow the use of radar detectors which is great but some of the drivers on our roads leave a lot to be desired.

Rant over! (time for a beer )

Then having to idle down Anzac Hwy - yes HIGHWAY, riding the brakes just to avoid a speeding ticket kills the whole experience. I don't think Perth's highways are that great either. Too many traffic lights. I say outter Melbourne and Tasmania are Australia's best roads for driving.

You could do it in less time in Adelaide as it is only one square mile. Just don't try to get out of the city, that's where the crawl is.

yes, but 'tassy' isn't a city. what's it like IN hobart?

canberra is ok, if you can deal with roundabouts... (says a lot about canberra, does it?)
