Default Geelong AFD 07 Cancelled.

just got this email from the organisers

Quote:
THE KIWANIS ALL FORD DAY CAR SHOW DUE TO BE HELD ON
SUNDAY 18th FEBRUARY 2007 AT DEAKIN UNIVERSITY WAURN PONDS,
HAS BEEN DEFERRED FOR TWELVE MONTHS TO SUNDAY 17th FEBRUARY 2008.
Due to the current drought conditions and stage 4 water restrictions in the Geelong Region, Deakin University has reluctantly closed all of its sports grounds to all events. There have been several meetings to explore the possibility of obtaining water to maintain the sports grounds, or to relocate to another suitable venue in the region, but unfortunately, we have had to make the hard decision to defer the event until 2008, when we will have a suitable venue.
We sincerely apologise for having to take this decision, but we feel it is the only responsible course open to us in the current circumstances.
To hold the event on a dry, dusty venue would be unfair to show car owners who have put so much effort into the presentation of their vehicles.
We will keep you updated with any further news on our web site www.allfordday.org
Again, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience, however it is due solely to matters over which we have no control.
This is the first time in 17 years that the annual Kiwanis All Ford Day car show will not proceed.
what a shame :(

another victim of the drought

There are a few sporting clubs throughout the state that cant play anything the entire season as the ground is deemed to be unsafe to be used. May even stretch to the footy season next year if no rain falls

This may sound stupid but could they hold it in the car park of Ford in Broadmeadows or in Geelong (I havent been to Ford Geelong so I dont know how big the carpark is)?

The 75th Anniversary stuff fitted in there. Probably wasnt as may cars though and it was tight.

Anyway, bummer. I was gonna go again this year.

i imagine its due to the size of the event?
logistical nightmare trying to organise something with that many cars, organised sites etc.
I doubt they would have cancelled it if there was another option for location, but i guess there isnt much around to house that many cars.

they have only been holding at deakin for a few years , before that it was held at the race course. i can see why they would have cancelled the event ,trying to find a location that can accomodate over 2000 entrants cars and then you have the general publics cars as well ,and because of the drought trying to find somewhere that isnt dusty and dead anywhere in victoria at the moment is hard.
is dissapointing tho , i look forward to this event every year .

By reading bits and pieces it sounds like they have tried but to put 1500 cars on display plus parking for others, there isnt much around!

i missed last years for a trivial reason, was really looking forward to this one, it was going to be my first! Bring on 2008 i guess, unless there are stage 15 water restrictions at that point.

Thats a shame. Its a pity Ford couldnt help and organise a place or something since there is that Ford/Geelong connection!

It has been raining reasonably hard here today and we hope it goes through the night.

Lets hope Vic and Geelong get some soon too!!!

I dont know if I would like my car dispayed in a dusty ground, with it being black and all!

no, but dust is.....

this is a shame but the most logical decision IMO.....theres no way people would want their show cars subjected to a dust buffeting.

look forward to it in 08!

Ah well that just means there will be more old school car at the all American day at Gembrook this year. I never like the all ford day anyway. It is sad to hear thought i hope they do get it back on track for next year.

I know a few people in our club were looking forward to the show. Now they can come to the FPV Day. I understand why they would cancel it.

But definently looking forward to 2008.

Maybe a Geelong show n shine could be put together on the following Saturday Feb 24 before the FPV Open Day Sunday Feb 25 with a cruise up the Highway on mass. Say gather at Ford Geelong and move on to Discovery centre for example. Kiwanis would probably help arrange things for a fundraiser if asked soon enough.

Yep geelong was great last year, and it not being on will make the FPV open day huge.

What a shame we can't have two awesome show's in a row.

The best part of the AFD day last year was the dill doing a big burnout and then a cop on a pushie catching up with him and giving him a ticket.

well i live in geelong and basically there is very few places that has the space. and the places that do have to many bumps etc so there would be to many lowered cars not making it in.
although i rarely get to go to these events i would have liked to.
at least this gives me time to sort out a decent car for next year. im only 18 and have little money but i found an EB falcon going cheap so hopefully ill have my first car in a week or so :
im already thinking of ways to make it better and i dont even own it yet.

also being sort my first post even know iv looked at the forums a few times over the years im sure ill be around a bit more now.

Major bummer, this is the biggie for me. I love this event for the variety of Fords it attracts. We were going to have a combined display with the Cobra club so it was going to be a beauty.

We'll be doing a run to Hanging Rock instead.
