I know this has been covered extensively before, but the other threads don't tell me what I need to know.
These is the right hand shock mount in the XR8 - Now I know they need replacing, as they make a hell of a racket over bumps and stuff, but apart from that, how do I tell they are buggered? As in, by looking at those photos can you tell me what gives it away that they need replacing? Cheers,

The noise is a good indicator otherwise get someone to drive while you watch it with the seat down so you can watch it.

Yeah I get that - I know they are rooted, but in other threads people have been able to point out why. They move around etc now.
I know very little about these mounts, what actually fails in them?

the rubber removes from the metal insert in the centre, you wont see anything with them together.
but if you look at them apart, sometimes the centre steel part, you can see a lip forming around it, but basically the centre insert that is glued in, the glue fails, i have also seen the rubber cracked too. |
