G'Day,
Name's Les: an 81yr old 'Newbie' whose first Ford was a '55 Anglia when I was 17. After graduating through XK, XL, XP's when they were new, I have just replaced the engine mounts and LH Driveshaft on the Focus and after a month of smooth running I have got an engine light and one Red light (not listed in the owner's manual as to what that means). Any ideas about fixing this would be appreciated if anyone has seen this code before. |

OK.
U1039 SCP (J1850) Invalid Or Missing Data For Vehicle Speed (Petrol) Invalid data network concerns - data is transferred within the normal inter-module message but contains known invalid data. The transmitting module logs a DTC related to the invalid data concern. Missing message network concerns - missing message concerns are logged by the module upon failure to receive a message from another module within a defined retry period. Diagnose all other PCM DTCs if there are any. Pinpoint Test QA.

Looking at the pinpoint tests, U1039 suggests checking DTC's in the ABS module as a first step and the remaining diagnostics continue from there.
Assuming there are none then it is almost certainly a PCM fault that will require replacement.

Thank you for such a quick reply Russell, I was not sure how serious to take this code or how to deal with it. I only have a ToolPro OM126 diagnostic unit and it did not show any other DTCs, but now I have something to go on: I really appreciate your help!
Thanks! |

Since you replaced the LHF driveshaft, check that you have not damaged the wiring going to the LHF wheel speed sensor or the sensor itself...

Thanks for that GTLegend, I was careful but I'll check it out tomorrow.
Oh for the simplicity of my old XP! |

I checked my handiwork and there was no sign of damage under the wheel-arch, and there were no other DTCs at all: ABS or otherwise.
Current situation is that it got worse before it got better! Last night on a short trip for Tea the car threw a fit and started running rough and slow, giving me 'P2110 Throttle Actuator 'A' Control System Forced Limited R.P.M' on the Odometer Strip. I assume this is 'Limp Mode'? Having returned home slowly (and without my Tea) I could not find a 'P2110' even in the 50 pages of Ford Codes. This morning (Sunday) I went to check the Codes again and when I turned the ignition 'On' the 'Engine Light' came on, and went 'OFF' when I started the engine. There was no shaking and misfiring and it completed a 30km drive with no issues. The OBDCII diagnostic unit showed that the two Fault Codes were still there, but I assume that this is just a 'History Log' and I was able to Erase them. If the U1039 was due to a bad connection, will I do any harm by simply unplugging and re-plugging the three plugs into the PCM one at a time? |
