I got one hell of a scare last night ill tell you what.
After getting my XG ute perfectly straight body wise for the past few weeks. Last night i went for a 10 pm cruise with some other ford boys to show off what i thought was a damn good looking XG ute! As we were cruising down plenty road, yes cruising not speeding, it is plenty road after all, i go to change lanes to my left. THAT part went fine. All of a sudden a random old lady matches her front end with the rear end of my car, to the left of me, and trys to change into my lane without realising she wasnt clear of my car!!! She taps my body leaving some marks, and then PANICS!! She swerved away from my car, then straight into it much much harder as if she wanted me off the road!!!! At 80 km's an hour, this spun me out and sent me sideways!! at this stage for all you melbourners, i was coming close to the entry to mount cooper drive, as i went slideing out i drifted into the corner of mount cooper drive, amazingly went though 2 massive poles without touching them, flatted a little sign, bounced over the gutter for the side walk, and bounced into the garden infront of office works. Massively sore head, but no one was badly injured. Fair shaken up though. Only had my P'Plates for a few months, and my Ute for less than that. Insurance claims are in as of now, however apparently the old woman has told AAMI that i swerved into her and caused my own crash. Great. I am not a happy camper. The damage you ask? her car, minor dent. My car? Minor body dent, and a WHOLE LOT OF TWISTED AND BENT UNDER CARRIAGE. GAHHHH! |

If you were cruising with other people get a Witness to back your story up.
She can swear black and blue it was your fault but if you have a witness then YOUR insurance company will back your claim up 100%, thats if you are insured and you wont have to pay your excess and your rating wont be effected. PS re personal injury - Get your head and neck checked out as if your going to claim against TAC and you dont get it checked within 48 hours I think it is you will have no claim for medical costs

So there were three lanes? Sounds like you were in the far-right, and moved to the centre lane, and she was in the far-left also moving to the centre lane.
Whenever I change lanes on a three-lane road (all moving in the same direction) I keep an eye out for people who may try to change lanes at the same time as me.

I instinctively feel "uncomfortable" about moving left from the right lane into the centre lane if there is a car in the far left lane level with, slightly forward of or slightly rear-ward of the position of my car...... at the very least i pay close attention to the position of that vehicle, and try not to pull over next to or rear-ward of that vehicle..
You could argue "proportionate blame" in the incidence of 2 vehicles coming together in the centre lane...

If you indicated, then started to change lanes first before she moved and you have a witness - then she has got no chance.
That said, if you see someone trying to move into the lane you are already merging into, and oblivious to the almost 5 metre long car next to them, switch back to the lane you came from before you become a victim to their carelessness.

Sounds like he had already changed to the middle lane when the other woman started to without looking.

The best technique i have found for this situation is when you want to merge into the centre lane, where possible use a little acceleration to bumpo your speed slightly above that of surrounding cars.
What this does is helps to keep your vehicle clear of those people who think your indicators are a signal for them to do as they please. good luck, hope you take the experience in a positive way. |

Once upon a time, the car behind on such a manouver took full responsibility regardless of the circumstances. My old man quite a number of years ago was spun off what is now the M5 in Sydney when a clown overtook him and merged into the front of his car. He copped a neg driving charge (the only time he's ever been booked in 50 years of driving) 100% insurance and lost some NCB. Good luck dude, hopefully it works out in your favour and the damage isn't too bad. |

I am surprised there is no permanent cameras ,red light or speed cameras; on plenty road, I know there use to be on at the tram stop as you turn left(or right) onto settlement road, but has been decommisioned, and is no more.
lets hope the government doesn't see my post, and get ideas lol! Last edited by kyro_02; 02-12-2007 at 10:52 PM. |

AceofSpades, as the upgraded of the tram stop's along plenty road, they've taken the camera that was there, down, there is not another one at that intersection(settlement road), that i've seen at all. especially not one where it use to be.
