Can anyone ID this old car please?

Found this old pic of my Dad with some old car he used to own.
It looks like it's been converted to a ute but I don't know what it is, any ideas.

Pretty sure it is pre 1934

Looks like a 32 5 window coupe converted into a roadster ute.

Apparently their were quite a few home made utes back then. One of the many reasons ford built the first ute in 1934

Thanks guys, still not sure though.
I thought Ford too because he called it Lizzy but it's not a T.
What throws me is the soft top with the metal arm, it looks factory, might have had a dicky seat.

I'd go along with Ando, the grille is upright like a 32 rather than the later years which were angled, and the windscreen is angled rather than Model A's which were more upright and the entire front bodywork a bit smaller. The converted-coupe aspect would explain the solid panel behind the door although the belt-line moulding in the panel doesn't look quite right - not really clear though. Ford5 it is a starting handle not a winch! It is possible it might be another make - people say cars all look the same today but it was like that in the 1920's & 30's too, you need to pick differences in radiators & grille shells etc.

I reckon it's a 33 by the headlight position (on guards)
Before the "mods" I'd say a 5 window "sports coupe"??

I will be able to give you about a 99% sure answer when i go home.
Need to have a look over a few old rodding mags just to get that front bonnet gaurd shape.

As outback_ute has said ford and chevs of the era were very similar.
The easiest way to tell was front grill and lights or rear lights as well.

After having a better look over i am starting to think it may be a 32 chev just the way the front guard comes down and the vents in the bonnet.

With many of the early cars the model was kept for two years so i can be hard to norrow it down to the right year.
E.g
30-31 model A
33-34 i think were model B. i think 32 may be this aswell
35-36 i have heard a couple dif thing but model 48 seems to the most common

Between say 33-34 the only difference in the car was the grill really and a couple of different little bits in the cowl.

It has suicide doors so if it's a Ford, it's the Model B Ford V8, the successor to the model A. It would be the first of the model B's (1932ish) because it doesn't have a slanted grill.

Not that you can tell in this picture, you could also tell the difference between a Ford and a Chevrolet by their differentials too.

The old engineer at work suspects it's actually a Dodge going by the cowl and headlight position.

I personally have no idea, it's well and truely before my time and even before my fathers time.

As mentioned probably a 1933 Plymouth or Dodge coupe.
Might have had a rumble seat. But it has an earlier roadster hood fitted.

Maybe a 1933 Plymouth? Check the attached picture, they have a similar bodyline where the door meets the hood, suicide doors and the gaurds have a similar arch shape. Wicked old picture!!

I'm going with the 33 Dodge, grill, cowel, hip line, door hinges, detail above the running boards are all identical...

Def not a ford as the door has only two hinges ford had 3. Also the flute work in the bonnet is all wrong.

Ok don't think it is a chev as the front guard comes down and then don't cut back sort of square 32 chev only had 3 pull out flutes in the bonnet and 33-34 chev had horizontal flutes. Ford and Chev had pretty much the same wheels that year and apparently that is not a ford or chev wheel in the back but a dodge (yeah that was a little freaky the new that)

So we are pretty sure the winner is a 33-34 dodge sports coupe cut down and converted.

So I am 99.9% sure that it is a dodge.

The only other one it could just be is a Plymouth as we don't know too much about them.

Dodge I think by the pics. For me too.
The headlight spacing away from the grille is the giveaway. Ford is very close, Dodge has a large gap.

these old cars didnt need roads, they drove them just about anywhere. not like the wimpy cars we have today.

my fathers first car was a model A ford that was cut down and turned into a ute . that would have been about 1943 i think. sadly no photos of that one.

It is Plymouth/Dodge 32 or 33 vintage.

It is not a Ford and I don't think it is a Chev.

It is the version they referred to as Cabriolet. As it has glass side windows and cloth top. Love the chrome trim Would have been a side valve in line 6.

A roadster would have fixed windscreen and cloth sides, and a coupe obviously would have glass sides and steel roof.

Clearly this car has then been modded to become some sort of ute.

Cool though.
