My 97 Prado Grande. Owned for ten years, nothing but regular services and consumables required. Has never let me down. Next up is my 2005 AWD Verada. Same deal.
I believe that if you look after your car it should be reliable no matter what it is (except a VW of course

Worst was 2 XE Falcon's and an XF I had. Looking back, 80's Ford were just simply terrible. Next best was a EAII, then a BFII, but the best overall was a VTII I have to say.

Had a modified Proton Satria in a past life (purchased new) .... drove that thing anywhere and everywhere ... and even did years of pizza delivery in it.
Did one clutch on it ... and standard maintenance ... sold it to a mate later. Had 320,000km on it when i sold it ... original engine and gearbox ... drove smooth and still had plenty of go in it.

The 93 EB ford fairmont i sold a few months ago, had it almost 10 years & in that time all i done was service, tune ups & bought one set of new tires & replaced one set of new break pads in all that time, oh i did replace the fuel pump but that's it! Still ran like the day i bought it all those 10 years ago. Thought my xw fairmont was the most reliable boy was i was wrong. Incredible car, im hoping my BA xr6t turns out like it!

My most reliable, my ef XR8 5spd. I was looking through my old books the other night,I did 33 oil changes on it!!, sold it at 250,00 km, my mate bought it, now done 350K, still drives nice, LPG since 50K. Only ever needed oil filters tyres etc. Nothing ever went wrong.
My EB XR8 wasn't as reliable, had to replace a coil! My BA XR8 has been good(touch wood) but only done 67000K, I don't drive it as much, running around in an EF Futura. |

2004 TL Mitsubishi Magna VRX. Serviced it twice in the 100,000ks I owned it, I drove it to work every night while my wife drove it during the day, not one problem in 5 years of ownership and abuse. Drove great, very underestimated cars.

Having only owned XYs and an XW, I can confidently say red ones break down and lose engines a lot, nugget gold ones are a lot more reliable but tend to run out of fuel a bit, maroon ones might be rusty and creaky but can't be killed with a stick, and yellow ones drive the best and do wonders with just a little maintenance.
Maybe my personal anecdotes don't mean so much after all ;) Last edited by Nanoraptor; 03-10-2013 at 09:35 PM. |

2008 Honda Accord Euro. Did nearly 100,000 klms in it, got it serviced smack on when i was supposed to, and that car never missed a beat, and the only thing that required replacing outside service items were the wiper blades.
Should never have sold it, best car i have ever owned. Car got written off by the guy who bought it off me. RIP.

XA Fairmont Coupe. Bought it off the original owner in 2002 at 58000mls. Owned it 9 years, sold in early 2011 at 83000mls, still had the same battery in it when I sold it. Apart from a water pump that I put on it when I got it, didn't put a spanner on that car apart from services. Best car!
Was daily driven 2002-2006. Cheers, Brendon
