Default $950.00 - what will you do with it?

if we get that $950.00 to 'stimulate' the economy, what will you do with it?

Me,
1. wakeboard
2. replace the front marshmello shocks on the EA

IF it passes, and IF I'm eligible, it will go into savings towards an engagement ring or towards a shed (depends on what the missus prefers the savings to go into).... if not off the mortgage. They're the 3 big things that I'm focused on at the minute. Sadly can't indulge until I get engaged, bring the mortgage down a bit, pay off HECS and get myself a shed. Hopefully will have a shed mid next year, and then will look at redoing the body on the XP.

Probably either spend it on the car or on doing some courses for work

Actually, IF it happens for me, I should probably use it to reduce the loan on the EF.... Pretty sad owing money on an EF. Oh well, pouring all excess funds into 2 mortgages and big losses in shares.... Everything else is owned outright, and no credit cards.... needed a car at the time, but not much in savings. Time to get one less thing to pay off..... Just wish it was the house that was paid off, just imagining what I could do with an extra $500 play money each week.... probably a good thing I'm restrained for the next 10 years or so, think I'd get a bit too silly

It'll go towards SVI instead of a mixer setup for the 'lane, or maybe a set of air struts for the rear, or maybe a new exhaust and extractors, or maybe............. , aw hell, too many things to choose from - decisions , decisions.........

What's the criteria to get it? To be honest this money should be diverted into other things, not given as a "handout" for people to smoke and drink away....
But that's a whole other kettle of fish....

I feel a little guilty, IF we get this handout, it's meant for the australian economy, but I'm going to NZ.. So I think I'll be spending it all over there, haha.

Sorry :(

Thats the whole point of it, for people to spend on things like keeping the poor tobacco and liquor industries afloat

If it happens mine will probably go into savings to ultimately help pay off my BA sooner. Although it would be handy right now to live on :

It'll help me get to both of the in-law weddings I have to attend in May & June. : Why they couldn't have them a week apart, I'll never know.
If the wife gets it (She should, she lodged a tax return last year) It'll go towards advertising her small business locally & the rest into the purchase of a Cricut (Flash paper cutter driven by a PC)

Isn't that the point here? We are to be given money so we can smoke and drink it away and to do it quite quickly in an effort to stimulate the economy.

I too thought that the money could be spent on infrastructure to also boost the economy but thinking about it later it could be difficult to spend that much money ($42 billion) in a hurry. (give to me and see how quick I can spend it though!!)

Better to give a lot of people a small amount of money (not small but you get what I mean) and have them all go and spend up.

That being said mine will go in the bank, like you I will split it between my 2 daughters accounts. Not what Rudd wants but oh well.

Cheers

Also if you get family tax benefit Part A?

Yep, I am sad to say ours will go onto bills or my daughters school fees. Will relieve some of the pressure though.

I agree Norm, I would rather see the money go into major infrastructure works, things like hospitals/schools and roads, not only is the money badly needed but it would create alot of jobs..

Like the first hand out its an unsustainable short term "false" stimulus.... and will create (more) debt which will need to be funded somehow...

Exactly right.. use the money to create jobs by building infrastructure as "investments".. the money is preserved and well used.
Wages are normally used far more wisely than once off "freebee" handouts....

Even if you smoke, drink and gamble the $950 away, it frees up $950 of your own cash to spend on something else, doesn't it?

For me, the wife and I have a new couch on layby. It'll be going straight on that so I can get my fat bottom on to some black leather quicker.

(I did say ON TO, not IN TO)

Typical.

Not entitled to it.

6 months before NRMA went public I decided not to renew my membership as my new car came with its own roadside. Missed out on ~$2k(?) worth of shares after being a member for 15 years.

If you work and earn less than $80K you get $950, up to $90K you get $650, up to $100K you get $450, based on 07/08 tax return.

If you get Family Tax Benefit A, you also get $950 for every child you have at school.
