Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, John Hargreaves, today (20 November) announced details of the 2006/07 asphalt overlay program.
"Asphalt resurfacing of roads in Canberra is planned to start on Monday 20 November 2006 in Wanniassa," said Mr Hargreaves. "The asphalt overlay program, which is part of the Government's commitment to keeping our roads well maintained and safe, is particularly targeting those roads that have deteriorated as an inevitable consequence of ageing and trafiic. This is in addition to the $3.5million road resealing program announced last week. "A contract to the value of $2.5 million has been awarded to Boral and will involve the resurfacing of a number of intersections, roundabouts, carparks and short sections of street at 26 sites. "Asphalt resurfacing in the southside of Canberra has been programmed to be completed in late January 2007, while work on the northside areas will start in February 2007. The whole asphalt resurfacing program is expected to be complete by late April 2007. "The summer months, when we have to roll-out our asphalt resurfacing program, are always busy. I encourage all Canberrans to drive carefully whist in and around roadworks. "The works will be carried out during off-peak times and nights to minimise the impact on road users; however, motorists are asked to be patient with any delays when travelling through the various work sites and to utilise the detours provided. "Signage will be erected well in advance of asphalt resurfacing works. Additionally, variable message boards will be used to warn motorists of work sites ahead," said Mr Hargreaves. The major roads and intersections to be resurfaced as part of the program include: · Canberra Ave / Hindmarsh Drive intersection · Hindmarsh Dr / Athllon Dr, Botany St, Ball St and Badimara Street intersections · Yamba Dr / Kitchener St intersection · Drakeford Dr / Tavener St intersection · Roundabouts on Longmore Cres at Gaunson Cres and Sainsbury Cres · Ellenbourgh St between Crossington Smith Cres and Crossington Smith Cres · Roundabouts on William Slim Dr at Chuculba Cres and Owen Dixon Dr · Hobart Place, Rudd St and Darwin Place in the City · Carparks at Section 13 and 14 in the City · Northbourne Ave from Antill St to Wakefield Ave |

My parents live in Gaunson cres and I had to drive mum to the tip in the ute to pick some stuff up. Do you think my non-car orientated mother told me about the road works.....No and I heard rocks spit up all over my car as I went through the roundabout. Didn't notice any damage though. They hadn't resealed it yet, they had just ripped up the old lot of road so there was no fresh tar or anything just lots of gravel and crap all over the road.
Thanks for the heads up on where to avoid!

Also they are revving up the works on the Gungahlin Drive Extension. It's going to suck when I have to go back to school.
I live in Tuggeranong and have to go to the CIT Bruce campus. When they were resealing near the Glenloch Interchange a couple of weeks back they had radar traps. Lot's of cop bikes and cars there. Drakeford Drive southbound really could do with a re-seal too. |

Well not exactly resealing, but close enough. I thought I would post the link for the alternative routes map for the Gungahlin Drive Extension works since Glenloch Interchange is pretty much a no go area.
I meant to do this much earlier but forgot untill today : http://www.gde.act.gov.au/__data/***...utes_small.pdf |

Traffic was bad yesterday. They opened the Belconnen turnoff which has traffic lights, but still 60k road works. Traffic was backed right up past the ANU bridge (where it drops from 90 to 80k's).
Not so much a problem on the motorbike though :thebirds:
