Default One for all the aviation enthusiasts!

Some of you may know where I work, and I come across alot of aviation photos during my time there. I have grabbed some of the finer, the more strange, and the more forgettable moments...

Let's start of with the nrew Airbus A380. It's had alot of attention lately, and here's some more for it. Spectacular photography of tailstrike testing...

What happens to old WW2 transports (looks like a Curtiss C-46 Commando to me) when they no longer fly? They get put in the water!

Arresting hooks – a fundamental part of landing a fixed wing aircraft on an aircraft carrier. Also good for catching aircraft rolling off the edge of the deck.

Testing the strength of impact-resistant walls for the construction of important buildings – this F-4 Phantom completes its tour of duty.

More to come…

Helmets – all fighter pilots wear them. Some are a bit more unusual than others though…

My gun is longer than your gun – Mi-24 Hind

Something’s not right here… the wind has sure picked up.

Crazy Eastern block countries always trying to save on the small things like tyre wear…

They don’t land planes like they used to, these days (although the people in the Air France plane might disagree)…

More to come…

Left, a little… no, right a touch…. are you sure this is an airport?

Taking off on tip toe – Jaguar in operation.

Why you really shouldn’t run red lights

And finally, just a cool shot of the Shuttle…extra big to give you feeling of the awesome nature of how high they are.

That’s all from me for now…

Regards, Timmeh

some rather interesting photos indeed!

this is the link to that video martion was talking about; its definitely a sturdy wall:

It's a test to see how nuclear power plants would stand up to a 911 style attack I assume, which is all well and good, but how many terrorists hijack phantoms? I'd imagine a 747 might produce a different outcome

Is that one with the plane landing near cars in Gibralter? and where is that one with the plane landing on the runway right next to the water? They're awesome!

Great pics Tim. I can't really say I'm an Aviation buff, but I really enjoy these when you post them. That shot in your Avatar is awesome! Have you got a bigger version?

I beleive the photo with the airliner landing on the bridge is in Tokyo or Hong Kong where there isnt enough room for a land airport so they built one on the water?

There is a photo of the space shuttle in todays paper showing it mounted to the top of a NASA 747 taking off, it looks incredible.

Correct! I have a full powerpoint presentation on the whole process of how they made the airport, I'll find it on a cd and post it sometime - it's amazing!

Sure do, although it's not a high quality photo, unfortunately (hence it being in my avatar where you don't notice!)

While we're on my favourite topic, my beloved Hornet, I'll post a few shots on A21-26, a 2OCU single seater painted in a special livery to commemorate 20 years of service to the Australian military by the F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet!

The design was actually penned by a Hornet ground crew. The Air Force ran an internal competition, allowing anyone to submit designs for the special paint job, the winner was posted in the RAAF News (and subsequently owed his squadron a carton of beer for appearing in the media no doubt!).

Well, until next time, thanks for those who posted replies, glad to know you like them!

Regards, Tim
