Default My '79 RS is getting a new engine. What extra parts to consider?

Hi all,

RaceTune in WA are pricing up a recond engine for my RS2000 and I wanted to know what additional bolt on mods I should ask for? Cams, Holley (or 2) with trumpets? I don't know what else can be bolted on but it already has PaceMaker extractors and a 2.25" exhaust.

These are subject to availability at RaceTune or on these forums or eBay and if I can get them in time to be installed.

Also what have people paid for a recond engine, fitted?

Regards,
Tom

What do you want out of the engine? Drivable? Grumpy? Street/track?
Head conversion?

If using the standard head, get it converted to run ULP. With my old motor, ended up fitting a high volume oil pump, and dual valve springs (cam had a lot of lift). Twin webbers sounded good, but drank like a fish. would also look for electronic ignition if not already fitted.

I just want a bit more power and it to be drivable, if the cam meant it would be very lumpy at idle then I wouldn't bother but. I am not going to use it on the track and it will be much of a weekend car so the noise the engine makes is priority.... So webers are on the cards.

The car runs on unleaded already, I had another Escort which needed lead replacement fluid.

EDIT: oh, wait, new engine so it might not run on ULP, Iwill have to ask when they call me back.

Race Tune in Beechboro have gotten back to me with a price of $3k to put in a recond engine. Extra for a water pump and the other mods I wanted.

I could either do that or fix the bottom end (which is why I opted for the recond engine) and steering (which wobbles when turning either direction)

Does anyone want to buy a white MKII RS2000 needing the above work for $4k?

WA is probably a bit far for me.
