Default Will you be participating in 'Earth Hour' ?

Tomorrow night at 8pm people will be flicking their off switches. Will you be one of those people?

I'll keep my power usage to a minimum (like I normally do) but won't be turning all my lights off.

nah gonna have a few things going but my lights are off at 8, five nights of the week anyway, and 3months power is under $200 even with electric stove and electric hot water so I think I do pretty good without participating in a gimmick that has minimal effect the enviroment

As has been posted, we too hardly have anything plugged in and if it is and not in use its turned off at the wall and most lights are off by 7:30pm anyway. Not for the envioronment just to save afew pennys.
Gets in my V8 and goes for a spirited drive :

For every lightswitch we turn off, I'm sure someone else turns 100 on elsewhere in the world.

The only lights we leave on at work are the external lights for security purposes.

Cheers

That's the only reason we should do it, money is better in our back pocket rather than the power companies.

Been and gone here in NZ, forgot about it... but I am using eco bulbs.

where did you get that idea from, check the profiles, you will find only 2 members that posted under 20 and they would have finished high school anyway from their ages.

It's the biggest waste of time.
While all those participating are feeling all warm and gooey inside for doing their bit for the environment, the truth is turning off your lights for one hour a year is pointless.
Wanna have some impact, implement some long term changes.

And AUXRVIII.... I've been out of school a looong time :P

After all if your such a dogooder why do you have a computer on?

you have good points (we all know something needs to be done but for real not just a back-pat token gesture that does 2/3rds of stuff all) but the thing that interests me more is how he nabbed the lot of us as being secondary school kids,

The same amount of power is being generated, creating the same amount of pollution, it's just not being used, so "earth hour" doing SFA.

Should I also go and buy a Prius that over its short working life is worse for the environment than a jeep. Thats counting manufacture and disposal based on a battery life of I think 6 years.

Come on mate a couple are definitely funny and just because they don’t seem to share your point of view does not mean they are acting like a secondary school kids.
I’m for the environment but I like the big V8’s so I really cant go preaching, If you want to preach about 'Earth Hour' you had better be driving an electric buzz box, (which would be powered by a coal fired power station in WA), and only drive to work, shops and other necessity drives. Otherwise walk.
If you want to turn off your power for earth hour, do so but don’t slam others for having a laugh.
Personally I find a lot of the people who preach the environment / greenpeace etc. seem to drive crap old 4cyl. cars that don’t get serviced & cost the environment much more in poor emissions and fuel used to travel than either of my V8’s.:

was flicking through the channels and sky news had a special reports crossing to different people. I wonder how many lights a sat link is equal too. in one shot they had the studio behind them with dozens of monitors. Just looking through another forum and this post describes how stupid some people are. do they really think this is not using power? what happens when they plug it into charge. such muppets.

"Heheh 20mins to go! =) And no I'm not on my computer, my LAPTOP is running on BATTERY!"

It's a "lights out" earth hour, not an "switch off and unplug everything" earth hour. I didn't make any mention of support for or against on the issue.
I was interested in reading what people were doing to contrbute. I guess I wasn't surprised with what I read.
