Default Is this the real deal?

I was just browsing on Ebay and spotted this

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Australian-Mu...QQcmdZViewItem

XB GT with "original XC interior".

I know there are plenty of stories around about my mates, brothers, father inlaw's genuine XR GT with a one off Factory fitted blown phase 4 4 bolt motor, 6sp and independant rear suspension.

But this one seams almost believable. Did XB coupes have the verticle or horizontal rear indicators?

Im not interested in buying it, just curious.

cheers.

seems like another scam. i wouldnt send a $10000 deposit then wait for the car to get shipped here and pay the rest to his "CONTACT". $10000 says the car will never get here.

$32,000 (and still hasn't reached reserve) for a mixed-model "bitsa" with 202,000 miles (323,000 kms) on it? Hmmmm......

Personally, I would never buy a car if I could not inspect it.

Especially classic cars, where people will try to weasel their way by claiming the car is highly collectable, where in reality it's just a bomb with some window dressing.

Its just an XC coupe with an XB front. As to whether it is factory or not....

XC coupes had the horizontal indicators, XA and XB had vertical.

It's an XB judging by the plates.

I didn't think XC dashs were that easy to fit to XB's??

Ummmmmm.

It's an Australian car, so I think that you'll find that it is 202,000 kilometres, not miles.

The guy has the plates that were supposedly on the car prior to export to the US, do a Vicroads search will give you the previous owners details, go and talk to them and they may shed some light on it for you.

All I can say is that the ebay photos are excellant. Not many adds that have that many photos in such detail.

It has been confirmed by the Australian GT Club that a very few number of XB GT's were built like this (XC dash, indicators etc.....) Very very rare, but genuine.

AKA 'an update', this was not uncommon in all the models, it was how they used to clear the last of a series, it was still being done as late as the early 90's. This practice was much more common in the 70's though, I'm sure there would be quite a few cars getting around with updated parts fitted from factory on here.

I think it was during the XB. The XA And early XBs were MPH. I think anyway, unless it was during the XA. Something like that. :

It's not a scam. The car in question has been well documented in the past. I read that there were about 3 GT coupes made with the XC interior. The reason being is that they were ordered as the XCs were coming into production. As there were no XC GTs XC shells had the XB front metal put on them plus the GT rear stone trays and GT fuel caps. They have XC Fairmont interiors. The GT historian did verify that the car is genuine. So I guess what we are looking at here is one of the very last XB GTs ever made. Oh and if anyone remembers the 100 year anniversary of Ford in Dearborn with the Aussie coupes showing up. I believe that this particular coupe was one of the ones that were there for the event.

Paul.

Usually I'd agree with you. But in this case, I know a lot of the guys in the US who have coupes. The cars owner died recently and the widow sold the car to an ex pat living over there. He's the one selling it on ebay. I don't know what he paid for the car but I do hope he gave the family a fair price as I'm sure the money would be sadly needed.
