Well I just registered my interest. All going well, I aim to have one in the garage by early-mid 2007. By then there will be some nice aftermarket bolt-ons available (well from the U.K anyway) that should see these little pocket rockets pushing out upwards of 180 kw. Still, wouldn't wanna go too silly, as the front wheels will only handle so much before torque steer becomes a real issue.
I love the look of the car but I really think that it would look much better with the zetec headlights. Btw, I heard that it will be on display at the Sydney motor show, so you lucky Sydney people will be able to check it out as early as tomorrow.

If Volvo has an AWD turbo 5cylinder, It would be certain to happen? 2 years down the track maybe! Even then we would have to private import one from Europe! |

I think its a way for Ford Aus to get people to recognise a performance model from Ford. XR series cars being known by almost all aussies as the next step up in performance from the base model, so badging it as an XR instead of ST will hopefully get it more recognition by Australians.
I reckon it has a nice ring to it, its something original, yet can almost distinctly be categorised as a Ford. It sure is a sweet car, especially in that orange colour. Tom

I wish mate. I'll need year at least to raise adequate funds (not a fan of huge loans). I'll go and take a test drive when they arrive, but I'm in no real hurry to buy- my ST170 is a great little car and goes like the proverbial, so I reckon it'll keep me happy for a while yet.

It's a nice looking car. I really love the colour. The bar is similar styling to the front bars on the FPV's. I defiantley like the XR5 Name Tag.

Those pictures don't do it justice, makes the colour look flat. It has a beautiful pearl-like white. Its beautiful... |

Are we getting the turbo in a 5 door (as in the pics above) ?
Thought they would have brought it out in a two door - not that I'm complaining mind you!

Yes we are getting the five door. Before the release of the LS focus in Oz, the Ford Marketing people decided that there was not a large enough market for 3 door models to justify their release in Australia. However, I found this quote today regarding the XR5: "Ford president Tom Gorman says the new car may be joined by a three-door version. I really like the three-door. I have asked them to go back and look at it". Looks like a 3 door XR5 could be on the cards afterall . :

Same as what VW did with the Golf GTI locally. They're bringing in 3 doors to alleviate the demand on the 5 door GTI. I really hope Ford can sell it and sell it in VERY decent numbers. The price looks VERY attractive. It SHOULD sell more than an SP23, let's hope it sells half as many.
