Default Crazy idea...

Alright, just thought i would run this by whoever would listen,

I own a barina (the very same one i make fun of below) i had a crazy idea to slot a ford 6-cly into the front, well maybe take out the firewall and convert it to RWD, anyone thought or tried this before? i know it will cost a bit, but hopefully it would be worth it in teh long run.

thanks fellas,
Skinna

I suggest you sit in the rear seats then ... and get a BIG bonnet bulge. A barina engine is a little bugger than a Falcons starter motor I think! Similar HP by the looks of it. :

Seriously though, the Commy V6 would be an easier fit (something like putting Oprah during her fat years into a size 6 bikini..)

funny you mention the real seat... im 6'4" so i could sit in the back and still reach the wheel! i wouldnt knock the engine... sure its the size of me double plugga thong but it delivers 6.4 kw to the front left wheel!

serious now, would a v6 be better? nothing is gunna fit in the east/west config, so im gunna rip teh fire wall out andgo from there...

Honestly, I think both the Ford I6 and Holden V6 are simply to big and, more importantly, to heavy. It would be a nighmare. If you really want to mod the barina and throw money at it hand over fist then get a turboed Honda or Nissan engine and fit that in.

yeah, i was thinkin SR20, would fit (very) snugly in the engine bay, but i am in darwin, and the humidity would kill it in a few days of heavy work. its just ment to be a backyard build up with some mates, but im still at school so gota make sure i can afford it first

Instead of trying to squeeze something that will never fit, how about check out what engines will just slot in, there is a 1.6 that will fit (GSi engine) and makes about double the power the 1.4 does. Should be reasonably cheap to do and you and your mates could do it in a weekend.

I have to ask why you would spend that sort of money on a, to quote the ad, "beep beep Barina". Crazy talk.

Though it could be worse, you could do what you just proposed to then find out you couldn't get it engineered.

Honestly, talk to an engineer before you pay a single cent on the car, learn about what you can and can't do, in order to keep the car registered.

In short, my advice is this: is fun toying with ideas, but the reality is alot of money, time, and paperwork, and in my opinion, in this case, it's just not worth it.

I bote for the I6 in the Barina! Go something like an EB 4.0 It will be cheap to find, easy to fix and cheap to replace when you blow it up popping wheelstands! If you lived closer I'd be really keen to help.

Well in that case go for it - should be awesome fun!

We had a old Ford ute as a bush basher and only mods involved onbolting the exhaust, spraying racing numbers on the side and welding an air scoop off a Cesna light plane onto the bonnet.

Are you sure that's a 351 though? The Engine bay isn't really big and you can't see an engine for a while.

In the UK a feew years ago, a Fiat Uno (very similar to a barina) was fitted with an in line 6 and engineered.
It was someone doing it just for the sake of it but it is possible!
I'll see if I can find a photo somewhere.....

if its just a bush basher get the Magna 3 litre V6 or the 2.5L V6 out of the mighty Telstart TX5. But your best bet would be a Rotary

If I was you I wouldn't bother though, it'd end up being a pretty expensive paddock beater.

For a bush basher the best way is to leave it stock or buy another ИИИИter for thrashing around.
