"Ford North America has confirmed it’s in the process of transitioning to a passenger car range comprising just the Mustang and Focus Active.
The company used its most recent financial release to confirm the news, consigning the Fusion, Taurus, Fiesta, C-Max and Focus to an early grave." https://www.caradvice.com.au/642577/...assenger-cars/ |

Ford are going to stop building cars that sell.
GM are building cars that do not sell. The end result will be that Ford and GM will be the same, only building trucks for the USA. |

WOW, beginning of the end of Ford as we know it?
Wonder how this will impact Ford globally long term? Will they become more of a commercial vehicle manufacturer like Isuzu?

Ford Global will still build sedans and small cars at their other factories in Europe and South East Asia, which is where Australia gets its cars from anyways.
I read it that it's only the US market that this refers to.

FORD you are dumb , dumb , dumb . Makes no sense whatever way you look at it on the face of it . Why do they treat eveybody like we're all the same wanting butt ugly monstrous 'trucks' or something .
Rationalize the passenger car market , yes , but to basically destroy it is just plain stupid . FORD AMERICA YOU ARE OFFICIALLY IDIOTS . |

Goodbye us getting any time a decently grunty Mondeo/Fusion and impossible that a Taurus SHO style 3.5 litre V6 twin turbo would ever grace our shores. Europe only builds ****y powered underwhelming Mondeo's that they dribble to us with a 2.0 Ecoboost as premium last time I looked. Ford keep wiping us including the 'home crowd' American customer base like a dirty bum ..Shame on them . Last edited by roddy1960; 26-04-2018 at 11:02 AM. |

I dont see why people get ****ed off. If Ford aren't making any money from certain models they have every right to discontinue them. They are a business not a charity. Happens all the time.
As already mentioned it doesn't effect the range here which only shares the focus and mondeo anyway. |

Couldn’t care less. Mid size sedan is a highly competitive segment with no margins, and they are boring. Why would you take a Fusion/Mondeo over a Stinger anyway? Trucks, SUVs and Mustangs are what Ford does best.

And the reason things are they way they are (in the US) is there aren't (enough) people interested in sedans/hatches. Ford US have changed tack in a big way and are investing in future tech...there are massive shifts coming to the auto market and they (seem) to be on the front foot getting ready for it. Aus can still source a range of passenger cars from Ford Europe. |

SUV's continue to rise and make big profits, while sedans keep dropping and have not much in the way of profits. Not hard to see why they made this decision, despite many of us not entirely agreeing with it. I think they would rather put some of that money into electric vehicles too.

Probably easier to build electric SUV's with the batteries in the floor than traditional passenger cars as well

The move to SUVs is like the change from the Model T running boards style to the full body cars of the 1950s. There is no going back, sedans and low cars are dead. They only survive now due to low pricing and nostalgia.
Ford is smart to do this. Chase the high profit high growth segments. Some of these segments perhaps don’t even exist yet. |

Is Ford Explorer continuing on ? It was based on a Taurus platform wasn’t it ? Or will Ford just sell Expeditions based on F trucks?

Does anybody know if the Mustang platform is used in any other model? They decided on the global platform strategy years ago.

... the Territory would fit perfectly into this strategy and outhandle its competitors to boot.
What does this mean for all those autonomous testing mondeo/fusions that were to be the uber drone of the future? They gone too?

Also, is this not a complete repudiation of One Ford?
Trucks & SUV for US hatches for EU Thai utes for SE Asia & Oz Sedans for China Who would have thought distinct regions and peoples prefer distinct types of vehicle?

Isn’t it funny, in a world of ever more crowded cities and sometimes volatile energy prices we’re moving towards ever larger SUV’s.

Heres a interesting link about some numbers & the philosophy behind the more than part culling of Ford US's vehicle lineup -
