Default Aborting Project

G'day all,

Due to a series of unfortunate events I must abort my EA project. I need the parking space it is currently taking up and have decided it best to start over. I am thinking about saving up for another E series - this time one that would not require mods to be special (DL LTD, EL XR8 or similar).

I apologise for disappointing those who took an interest in the project which at one stage had big plans, and also to say a special thank you to EA2BA who gave tireless support and effort in his own time.

My plan is to sell the car as is, as a rolling shell with the AU motor and most parts to run, but this is not confirmed as yet. Either way the nasty news had to be broken! D'oh.

Cheers,

Jack

Sorry to hear you're aborting the project. I'm sure EA2BA has helped a lot! He's helped me a lot too

I thought the project was aborted a long time ago :P

If you want to get rid of any turbo gear let me know ;) And yeah, it's a good idea to get something that you can actually just drive and enjoy....an EL XR8 5 speed would be awesome. Just dump it, spool it and rip skids all day long

LOL Doug! I agree...

Jack what sort of price are you looking at for the EA with AU donk? Is the AU donk modified and fitted to the EA currently? Good luck with your future endeavours!

What does it need to be finished? Maybe post up some more details...

Does this knock Doug off the top of the most disappointing project list?

Yep, 3+ years or so of planning. then modding, and then "unmodding", only to be aborted. I'm dissappointed.

Good idea Jack. It was never gonna get done anyway. No point having it sitting around in the way.

Did that euro thing ever get back on the road with those nice wheels you bought? Pics?

I can just imagine all the new members from the last 2 years wondering wtf is going on.

Jack had a beautiful white EA. He replaced so many small and trivial parts in an attempt to make the car damn near perfect. He then took it back to standard exterior (sleeper project) and bought a few turbo bits and peices. Jack was going to by a very built motor (gmdstroya's or something like that) but that fell through and I think ended up buying an AU donk. Then he bought a Eunos and put some BBS wheels on it, and the EA was left where it sat. Jack?

Thanks for the responses guys! Pardon the long thread but I wanted to try and address every major point made.

It was an EA Ghia with the stock motor and a 5 speed transmission when I took it off the

road. Almost everything mechanical was being changed - AU motor with XH/ED manifold, 4 speed

auto conversion and other nightmares... all of which was supposed to set it up as a well

engineered base for my turbo.

marginal presence for the past few years. Cheers!

Not sure what's happening with the turbo stuff, but I agree it's nice to be able to just

drive. Not only that, but spending a bit extra to buy a car that is rare/special/sought

after in the first place largely negates the need for spending thousands and thousands in

mods...

G'day Luke, the motor is fitted on new EA-ED mounts but the front K frame beam awaits

welding in. Very roughly hoping the $1k mark for everything except steering wheel and forced

induction stuff... to think the motor alone cost $1400 or so back in the day.

Heh, I used to do one of them about every week. :P Then again it was more of a success story

back then, I'll try and drag up some pics though.

hehe that's the spirit. Cheers for the support Dave, but keep in my mind Mazda (singular

now) has the important task of helping me escape a lot of debt so I can hopefully get back

into a local car.

heh true that, ;) which is one of the things the next owner will have to decide, either to

chuck an EA dash shell in there, or use the ED shell and upgrade the rest of the interior to

match.

opportunity comes I won't hestitate to look at a nice EL.

Pffft Doug is an amateur ;). Unfortunately there are a lot of little things to be done so it

would be a long list of piddly items. That includes making a custom mount for the

transmission, install the dash/finalise 4 speed wiring, the anciliaries aren't all fitted (I

think we've finally got the right combo but the ED manifold was a real pain in the butt)...

That makes 2 of us Jared, hell I've had the car in my possession since the year 2000 - it

only took one bad decision in '03 and I bit way more than I could chew. But life goes on ;)

Damn that's a good memory. The gmdstroya engine was supposed to be a monster but from memory he stopped getting back to me... I ended up buying the Eunos with those funds and the 'simple' EA mods ended up being a lot of stuffing around with limited time/energy available, like the 4 speed conversion, AU motor fitment and that damn inlet manifold. Now I have a few credit cards to pay off and little else, but this is what learning is all about... ;)

not to mention that t5 conversion which you kindly let me pay you off on because i was poor and stuff, I really wanted a 5speed EA again and you helped make that happen for me. It now resides behind sundeeps Turbo EA still going strong. P.S this is Damo shhhh, I got banned permanently for some reason :S , my EA was parted out a long time ago (sometime last year).

Take care Trouty.

Thanks for clearing that up Sunny ;), but yes it does approach 4 years ago now, ridiculous how time goes.

Damo, good to hear from you matey, even though in 20/20 hindsight I should have kept that damn 5 speed ;).

And pics as requested.
